Colorado University Athletics
Texas Tech 80, Colorado 58
January 25, 2003 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Ceal Barry
GENERAL-"I think that in the first half Natalie Ritchie really hurt us...I felt like she hurt us and we had three consecutive turnovers that gave them easy points in the first half and that was the game."
ON EMBARRASSMENT-"I'm not embarrassed. You talk about embarrassment; my team was picked to finish sixth. They're giving the best effort that they can. I'm replacing four starters here."
"I think we can play better. If you talk about embarrassing, I'm angrier than I am embarrassed. I think our guard play needs to get better."
ON TEXAS TECH-"I think that they would have played this way regardless of whether they beat Texas or lost to Texas."
ON TERA BJORKLUND-"I think Tera was real competitive on the inside, but we just weren't making the plays."
ON THE BIG 12-"I think Texas, K-State and Texas Tech are clearly better in terms of where we are. They are playing better than we are."
"I think the difference between Texas Tech and K-State is that Texas Tech is athletic and K-State is skilled. We're just not experienced enough."
ON WHAT THE BUFFS TAKE FROM THE LOSS-"This is a young team. The media picked us to finish sixth. We weren't tabbed as a Final Four team we were tabbed to finish sixth-then be in a battle for sixth. Maria Billingsley is new to the Big 12, Veronica Johns-Richardson is just starting to get a lot of Big 12 time and Amber Metoyer is a freshman. I think that they, those three, can only get better and as they get better our team will improve."
Colorado Players
Forward Sabrina Scott GENERAL-""We started out alright, but then we got to 16-6 and it (Texas Tech's surge) put us in a hole right away. That is exactly what we did not want to do against a team like Texas Tech. Coach Barry said they were a great team and we knew we could not fall behind. I think that really killed us."
ON MOVING ON-"You just look at it like a loss. It's one loss, and you can't let it get you against Baylor. We can't let Texas Tech beat us twice. We have to bounce back and come ready to play."
Center Tera Bjorklund
ON HER 1,000-th POINT-"It is always nice for recognition, but it is better to get the win. I never really think about it at all, but it's kind of exciting."
ON HER OFFENSE-"I think Texas Tech's defense was playing me one-on-one. Everyone around me just got me the ball and I was able to make some things happen from there."
ON MOVING ON-"I think if mentally, we get things (set) in our minds, we will be able to compete with any of the teams (at the top of the Big 12)."
Texas Tech Head Coach Marsha Sharpe
GENERAL-"I was extremely pleased with the way we came out and played today. I was proud, coming off that emotional loss to the University of Texas on Wednesday. We all know all the games in the Big 12 are going to be a battle and you always have to come in and play hard. I have a lot of respect for Colorado and you always have to be ready for a war. I have tons of respect for Ceal (Berry) and what she has done for their program."
ON DEFENSE-"I thought we had a good game plan coming in attacking the triangle offense that Colorado plays so well. The veterans came in and did a great job. We were able to put pressure on them throughout the game, and we did a great job."
ON THE PLAY OF TERA BJORKLUND -" Tera played a great game especially in the second half. She definitely took advantage of the pressure we put on the perimeter players, and was able to expose us underneath the basket... She is a tremendous player."
Texas Tech Guard Natalie Ritchie
GENERAL - "The whole team played really well today. The coaches prepared us and we knew what we had to do. I felt really comfortable out there today and it was just a good win. I think what is so great about our team is that we have so many weapons offensively. We are able to make other teams pick and choose who they are going to double. And today it was nice enough to get open and take some good shots. It was good for everybody to get in there and get some experience and for some of the starters to get some rest in the second half."
