COLORADO 64, IOWA STATE 63. (14 lead changes, five in the final 2:06; 7 ties).
Colorado improved to 11-1, its best start since opening with a similar mark in 1993-94. It's tied for the third best start in school history, behind 12-0 starts in both 1980-81 and 1992-93.
CU now leads the all-time series with Iowa State by 32-16, including a 16-5 edge in Boulder with three straight wins at the Coors Events/Conference Center in the series.
With the women 11-1 and the men 10-3, the combined hoops record is 21-4 at this point, the best at CU since the formation of the Big 12 in 1996-97.
Game of Runs. CU had four runs of six or more straight points (8-0 twice, 6-0 twice); Iowa State had four runs of seven or more straight points (10-0 once, 8-0 twice, 7-0 once).
Amber Metoyer. The freshman led CU with 13 points, the first time all season she has led the team. She scored CU's final seven points and had 11 in the second half, all coming in a 19-7 Colorado run to close the game.
Behind Metoyer, CU's bench outscored Iowa State's by 34-10. Randie Wirt had 11 and Veronica Johns-Richardson 10 as all three subs for CU hit double figures.
Tera Bjorklund. The junior center was held to a season-low six points, her first single-digit game of the season. She had scored at least 11 in the first 11 games, and 16 or more eight times. But she did grab a game-high seven rebounds.
Tonight marked only the third time in 12 games that CU trailed at intermission; the Buffs were behind Rice, 40-39, in the opener and won, 85-66; Colorado trailed Villanova 30-24 but lost, 59-54.
Colorado committed a season-low 11 personal fouls, and its 11 turnovers were its second fewest, trailing only the nine it had against Villanova. With Iowa State committing a season-high 20 turnovers, the Buffs have forced the foe into 20 or more turnovers in seven of 12 games this year. The Buffs are now +54 on the year in turnovers (+4.5 per game).
This was the 10th time in 12 games that CU outscored its opponent in the second half.
