BOULDER- Sophomore quarterback Joel Klatt earned CU Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season after completing yet another record-setting performance in Saturday's win over Kansas.  In his first complete game since suffering a severe shoulder sprain against Washington State, Klatt stepped up to gain his second 400-plus yard game of his career, exceeding his season opening numbers (402 yards) that led CU to a win over Colorado State.

It was a day of records for Klatt as he completed 38-of-54 passes for 419 yards and two touchdowns, giving him the fourth most yards in CU history.  In addition, the Arvada, Colorado native set individual school records for the most passing attempts in a game (54; old record-51 by Randy Essington and Steve Vogel in 1982) and completions (38; topping the 33 by Koy Detmer in 1992).  He racked up 424 yards of total offense, a mark that stands second in school history with two 400-yard games, and he is well on his way to overcome Detmer who had five in his career.  In Klatt's third comeback victory, his 58 plays tied for the fourth most in CU history and carried the buffs to an overtime win over Kansas.

Klatt has completed 96-of-151 attempts on the year and based on his per-game average, he is on pace to throw for 2,596 yards, which would be the third-highest total for any CU quarterback in a single season.  In the past five games Klatt has thrown for 1,118 yards and eight touchdowns and continues to play a vital role for the Buffs as they prepare to take on Kansas State this Saturday.

Others nominated for this week's award were Monique Gerlach (volleyball), Kathryn Grandinetti (soccer) and Jackie Zeigle (cross country).

VOLLEYBALL:  Monique Gerlach, Senior, Monarch Beach, Calif.

In one of Colorado's most complete matches of the season, a 30-21, 30-25, 30-25 sweep over Baylor University on Saturday night, senior middle blocker Monique Gerlach hit .500 for the match, netting 13 kills on 26 attacks with no errors. Gerlach, CU's all time hitting percentage leader, also recorded 13 digs and seven blocks.  The Buffs' captain had five of her seven blocks in the game, including two-straight to help CU build a 13-9 lead they never relinquished.

SOCCER:  Kathryn Grandinetti, Sophomore, Centennial, Colo.

Colorado sophomore Kathryn Grandinetti scored a pair of goals in Colorado's school-record 6-0 blanking of Minnesota on Friday.  Grandinetti netted the quickest goal in program history when she headed a Katie Griffin pass from six yards out over Minnesota keeper Karli Kopietz in the fourth minute for her third goal this season.

Grandinetti made it a 2-0 advantage in the 33rd minute when Ellen Falender's pass to Maddy Minnis off the right post forced Minnesota's keeper out of position as Grandinetti one-timed it past the defender.

CROSS COUNTRY:  Jackie Zeigle, Sophomore, South Jordan, Utah

Jackie Zeigle ran to a career-best runner-up finish and was the first of five Buffs in the top-10 to lead the Colorado women to the team title at Saturday's Fort Hays State Cross Country Invitational here Saturday.  Zeigle covered the women's 5k course in 19 minutes 9 seconds, just five seconds off the winning pace of Lindsay Grose of Air Force, which tied the Buffs in the Division I team standings with 32 points.
