COLORADO 84, OLD DOMINION 67
November 14, 2003 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Ceal Barry
GENERAL: “I thought we shot the ball pretty well tonight. Our outside shooting was great. They left the outside corner open so we got our threes in from there.”
“We can't be a good team without depth.”
ON C TERA BJORKLUND: “They were double-teaming Tera all night and we need her to be open to have the outside shooting effective.”
ON G EMILY WANER: “She played very well for her first college game. I was very impressed with her. She shot well and she led the team. In practice her defense is improving and she's eager to learn.”
ON TURNOVERS: “We had to get them to turn the ball over. For us to have an ability to score on Old Dominion, we had to No. 1 get them to turnover the ball and No. 2 covert.”
ON FACING NOTRE DAME: “They play very deep and they have great size. They play a lot of zone and shoot very well. It's going to be a physical challenge.”
ON THE EXPERIMENTAL THREE-POINT LINE: “It doesn't seem to bother us too much.”
F Veronica Johns-Richardson
ON HER OFF-SEASON IMPROVEMENTS: “I definitely practiced my quickness this summer. I also worked on quickness and finishing and getting stronger, but penetration has always been my game.”
C Tera Bjorklund
ON HER ANKLE INJURY: “For one thing, they put this cast on right away and I told them to tape it up really tight so that I wouldn't be able to feel it. I think it will be fine. When I was playing, it loosened up a little bit, but then when I stopped, it stiffened, but I think it will be okay.”
ON THE EXPERIMENTAL THREE-POINT LINE: “I think it definitely has an effect on the game. The ball gets pushed higher up and, which means you cannot do as many things. Once you're inside the lines, it's all good because you have more space to work with.”
ON DEFENSIVE MATCH UPS: “The first three games, we didn't really see a lot of double teaming, but this game was a little different. I thought their post did a good job keeping up and I thought they were running the ball well. They were able to push me around a little bit, but I just had to shake it off.”
ON ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: “We could rebound a little more, and we had a hard time crossing at the bottom. Offensively, I think we could have pushed the ball a little more and be a little quicker down the floor.”
ON THE WNBA SCOUTS: “It doesn't really put a lot of pressure on me, you kind of forget about it. I just tell myself not to worry, because hopefully they will not just go to one game to watch me. I hope they'll come to more games, but I can't think about it.”
G Emily Waner
ON HER THREE-POINT SHOOTING: “Well, they left me wide open, which always helps. My job is to knock them down, but I thought our team played really well tonight. I didn't think that first three-pointer was going to go in because I was off-balance at first. She (Coach Barry) wanted us to knock down outside shots and down by the corner. Kate (Fagan) and Whitney (Law) were also hitting shots, but it really opens it up for Tera (Bjorklund) and that's what's really important.”
