GENERAL “I think this was a pretty good final test. I saw some good and some bad. We had pretty good energy from our guys. I really like Lamar's (Harris) energy for us. We still need to do some things. We need to get out on the wings and run the floor better, but for the most part, I liked what I saw.”
ON F LAMAR HARRIS: “I put Lamar out there late because he needed more reps. He hasn't played in four or five days so I needed to get him out there playing and get as many reps as he needs. Lamar is our most high-energy player. He doesn't always practice with that energy. He saves it for the game. I don't think he likes to practice, but we're trying to convince him that he'd be a tremendously better player if he learns to like practice.”
ON C DAVID HARRISON: “I'd like to see David get more touches, but tonight was a little different. Their defense was sagging often so he couldn't get the ball as much. Our guards weren't taking some open shots because they were trying to get the ball into David. He is our No. 1 option. They need to work harder to get the ball to him, but he needs to do his part to get open.”
ON THE ALL-STAR DEFENSE: “Their defense was very strange. There's no pressure and they sagged and played zone. This is the same team that lost to
ON BIG 12 ROAD PLAY: “Being on the road with a freshman, let me tell you its tough. You need a veteran point guard to win on the road in the Big 12. Having thrown him (Antoine McGee) into the fire last year, I think that he'll be able to play on the road with more success. He has improved a lot from last year.”
ON FACING NORTHWESTERN: “Northwestern is a very good basketball team. They're going to be a tough task because we're talking Big 10. It is their first home game and the players will be juiced. We are supposed to be a good team this year and the coach won't have a problem pumping up the players.”
ON DEFENSIVE DISCIPLINE: “I don't think that we're there yet. We don't have all five guys that are getting down in their stance yet. Some of our guys have a tendency to relax when their man doesn't have the ball. A team like Northwestern will blow by you before you know it, if you sag off them.”
GENERAL “We're close, we're almost there. All it comes down to is how we start the game.”
ON DEFENSIVE PRESSURE “(Mohammed) Woni was pretty solid, he was a good test for me. It wasn't as hard for me against the Regis guy. He was shorter and I could shoot over him. Woni was good for me because he has excelled at the highest levels. When you play guys that were big-time players in college and some guys that played in the league (NBA), it's a good test. Tonight was a good test for all of our guys.”
ON BIG 12 PLAY “The Big 12 is really physical. You're not going to be able to leave the game without aches and pains. They have bigger and stronger players and we've got to be able to challenge them.”
GENERAL “We were all wondering after Regis and talked amongst ourselves about how it was going to be a challenge. We expected a better team than the first week. When that happens we know not to worry, and that we have to get better. We found out that we are a better team than we showed against Regis. We have gotten deeper, and the guys off the bench have improved. We are all better as one and better as a team. Like Lamar said we have to hit David (
ON UPCOMING ROAD-TRIP “We are ready for it. We need to go 3-0 to get the monkey off our back. We know we can make others play hard, we're a good team. The leaders on our team, starters and bench need to be ready, and everyone has to come to play. Like coach P (Patton) always says, ?the best players have to show up to play.'”
ON HIS PERFORMANCE “I felt confident. I was grabbing rebounds and doing stuff that Stephane did last year. I felt better coming off the bench because everybody else was tired. I just kept grabbing boards, and with six points that's cool.”
ON INJURY “I hurt my lower back and had to take a week off. My back was still tight last Tuesday and today I felt back to normal.”
EA Sports Head Coach Dudley Rutherford
ON LOSING THREE STARTERS TO ABA- “Losing those guys really hurts, cause we needed the size and energy. Playing up here in the altitude we need the depth. We looked like we were tired. It was unfortunate, but Colorado go to work on their press a little bit.”
