COLORADO 81, OREGON STATE 66 QUOTES

December 01, 2003 | Men's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Ricardo Patton

GENERAL: “Oregon State was very well coached and were very prepared coming in.  For most of the game they outplayed us.  Luckily, we remembered how to play defense, and that was it for us at the end.

“Basketball is a game of runs.  I thought when we went to our zone (defense) it changed the tempo and slowed them down a bit.  I think we showed in the first half that we weren't any better on offense than Oregon State.  We had to do it on defense in the second half.  They shot the ball better than I had seen on film.  We knew they had a couple outside guys, though.  I thought they did a good job posting up.  We got buried in the post.”

ON STARTING OFF SLOWLY: “Maybe we have been reading too many press clippings and think we can just show up (to win).  Oregon State hopefully showed us we can't do that.”

ON G MARCUS HALL: “Marcus played pretty well.  I thought he ran the team pretty well.  He only had one turnover, but that turnover looked like 10 to me.”

ON PLAYING WITHOUT C DAVID HARRISON: “They were going to make our guys prove they could shoot and score without David.  That's what we're going to face this year.  It's imperative that other guys step up.”

ON G/F JASON OBAZUAYE: “He is primarily a slasher.  He has been working hard on his shooting the ball lately.  So, it was good to see some of his hard work pay off tonight.”

GENERAL: “The altitude was getting to (OSU) and they started to doubt themselves. In the first half, we had a few stops and we turned them over. In the second half, we had the stops, but turned them into buckets. We played with emotion. We knew we had to take the game to them. When we played hard, the crowd appreciated it.”

ON G JAYSON OBAZUAYE: “(His 10 points) were huge. He really stepped up tonight. In the first half we were struggling. If you take out (Jayson's) 8 points (in the first half), it would have looked a lot worse. We need guys like Jayson (Obazuaye), Marcus (Hall), and Glean (Eddy) to step up every night. Marcus had eight assists tonight and we really can't ask for much more than that.”

ON C DAVID HARRISON'S TECHNICAL FOUL: “When he was on the bench, we all had to help rebound. We all rose to the occasion. It definitely made it tougher without David, but when he came back, we gave it to him and he put it away.”

C DAVID HARRISON

GENERAL: “It's no secret what happened here last season. We beat four ranked teams and had an almost perfect record here. We only lost one on a lucky shot. Teams know that they have to come in and play hard to win here. In the second half (OSU) was flat and passive and we had to take the game to them.”

G MARCUS HALL

ON OPPONENT INTENSITY: “I don't know what to expect (from other teams).  I thin every team is going to come out here with that type of intensity (like OSU did).”

Oregon State Head Coach Jay John

GENERAL: “ This is a quality Colorado team, and they expect big things out of them this year. Overall, I am pleased with what we did, and I am proud of our guys. This was the best team, and the best game we have played. We experienced things, good and bad, in this game that we have never seen happen before. We have to take the good, and continue to play. They are a veteran team, and they made the adjustments they needed to in the second half. They schooled us, to be honest. There was clearly some frustration on our guys part on offense, and the ball had trouble going in. Colorado increased their pressure, and we never really had our defense set like we did in the first. Half. Colorado got their running game going, and we couldn't get our defense set. All of our guys have to feel good about how they competed. We just have to iron out the kinks.”

ON C DAVID HARRISON “ He is a very very good player. He only had four blocks, but he changed a lot of shots. He comes out of nowhere. He's just a really good player. I haven't seen him play since high school. He has really done a good job with his body, and is a really solid player.”
