Richmond 75, Colorado 62 Post-game Quotes
December 31, 2003 | Men's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Ricardo Patton
GENERAL: “As I stated prior to the game, I thought Richmond was a very good basketball team watching film, I thought they looked better than us in a lot of ways. We've just hit a stretch where guys aren't playing well and I'm not doing a very good job of coaching them to play well.
“They weren't tired, it wasn't the team. Nobody played over 28 minutes and they've been getting 33 minutes a game. All I know is we've got to continue to work, continue to identify the mistakes we're making and get better at these mistakes. One of the things I know we need to get better at is coming from behind but we need leadership on the floor, somebody to rally the troops, because we're going to have games when we need to come from behind because we haven't overcome adversity in a game.”
ON LACK OF LEADERSHIP: “It's surprises me only in the sense that you wouldn't expect that from your upperclassmen, but I think it's something that has been festering for a while. At this point we're a bunch of individuals. We're not a team right now. Again, I just don't see the leadership, no one is stepping up, particularly on the floor.”
ON F MICHEL MORANDAIS: “Certainly it (academic concerns) got to be weighing heavily on his mind and can't not effect his teammates, certainly it effects the coaches trying to figure out what we have and don't have and what we can put on the floor.
“Again, it's got to weight heavy on the kid's mind, its easy to say he's got to put it behind him, but that's easier said than done. You go 0-for-5 you ought to pass the ball. He didn't look like the confident Michel Morandais out there today. He was trying to pass the ball more and he had three assists. To be effective, you're head's got to be right and when you've got the possibility of your college career being over in a couple of weeks, it might effect my play. He may disagree.”
ON BIG 12: “From my standpoint its just a matter of getting the guys to buy into what it takes to be successful. I don't think there's any team in the Big 12 we're more talented than.”
GENERAL: “They shot an outrageous percentage from the floor, from three. I don't want to say it's all defensive, but when you shoot 34 percent from the floor and 11 from three, that's not very good.”
ON HIS INJURY: “They say it's a bruise. I'm not going to miss any time.
“I just jumped and I ended up on the floor.”
ON LOSING AT HOME: “I got fans in my own gym heckling me. How's that feel? I don't even like playing at home right now. " If I'm going to be booed, I'd rather be on the road from people I don't have to see everyday.”
ON THE
ON F MICHEL MORANDAIS: “You got to ask Michle that. I think he's trying to please people too much. " Player like him, screw assists, go and score. He's a scorer, Blair's (
ON THE UPCOMING CONFERENCE SEASON: “If you thought these last two losses were ugly, it's going to be a lot uglier if we keep playing that way. I don't know what the problem is, you'd have to ask the coaches. We've got enough good players, but we've just got to get out of this funk.”
ON HOW THE LOSING STREAK EFFECTS THEM: “Subconsciously, not going though things as efficiently as we were. We aren't taking shots that we could and the shots that we're taking we're not taking with confidence.”
ON MICHEL MORANDAIS: “Michel is good enough to take any guy when he wants. When he's in that mode when he's said he's going to score, he can't be stopped. I guard him everyday in practice. He's good enough to take any guy. I know what he can do, you know what he can do and he's just not doing it.”
