Colorado vs. BYU Quotes
March 22, 2003 | Women's Basketball
GENERAL: "I would say two things about this game-Tera (Bjorklund) and Erin (Thorn). I mean we have Sabrina (Scott) but Erin is a shooter. You kind of have to raise your eye at a player like Kate (Fagan). When you don't talk about her much, I kind of though she would be able to shoot the ball tonight...I think the Big 12 teams know our personnel and they know our offense and they shut us down. For some people, those were the most open shots we had in a long time."
ON MARIA BILLINGSLEY: "She was great, she was phenomenal. If you had told me before the game that Maria would lead us in minutes played, I'd say it would be Sabrina (Scott) or Tera (Bjorklund) but that's how valuable she was. We couldn't take her off the floor.
"Well, she did a great job on defense. She listened and did what we asxked her to do and did it to the best of her ability. She did if for 40 minutes. I think that more than she has gotten that much better in two months, I think she did everything she could do to help us to win."
ON INSIDE ADJUSTMENTS: "It was a game of adjustments. We have smart players and they read it. We didn't do anything on the bench. It was Tera (Bjorklund) and Linda (Lappe) and Sabrina (Scott).
ON ALTITUDE ADJUSTMENT: "For my freshman, it takes a good year for them to come in and play basketball if they come from Oklahoma or Texas in order to adjust to the same level they played at in high school. For the home team it (altitude) is a significant advantage. With BYU, that wasn't there, we had to work for it. I've always felt that there's two things that help us playing in Colorado-that's altitude and the home crowd.
ON DEFENSE: "I don't think we go very far if we don't play defense. We play defense and we stay in the tournament. We're not going to go out there and outscore anybody.
Colorado Players
C Tera Bjorklund ON ADVANCING: "We're just getting started. We are ready to go now. We still have a lot of work to do and a long ways to go."
ON COLORADO'S DEFENSE: "Maria (Billingsley) was an animal. She enabled the backcourt to anticipate plays. Mentally, we were ready for a lot of the stuff they threw at us."
G Kate Fagan
ON TOURNAMENT HOPES: "We have confidence going into the second round. We're glad to be on our home court playing in front of our fans. We're not rusty, we're excited."
