Six WBB Players Net Academic Honors

BOULDER - The University of Colorado women's basketball team had six players named to the Academic All-Big 12 team Tuesday, as Linda Lappe, Sabrina Scott, Tera Bjorklund, Kate Fagan, Randie Wirt and Veronica Johns-Richardson all garnered first-team honors.

Of the 53 conference players named to the squad, 46 earned first-team accolades by maintaining a 3.20 grade point average or better.

Led by senior captains Lappe (Marketing) and Scott (Psychology), who have both been first-team selections for the past two seasons, the Buffs presented six first-teamers for the third consecutive year, as the junior Fagan (Communication) also made her third appearance.

Representing the junior class with Fagan, Bjorklund (Communication) and Wirt (Psychology) earned first-team honors for the second season in a row, while it was the sophomore John-Richardson's (Business) first time.

To qualify for Big 12 academic mention, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA either cumulative or during the two previous semesters, and have participated in 60 percent of her team's action. Freshman and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
