No. 43 CU No Match For 'Huskers

April 12, 2003 | Tennis

BOULDER - Junior Morgan Sall won her 11th consecutive match of the spring leading the No. 43 Colorado women's tennis team to a 6-1 victory over No. 66 Nebraska, Saturday afternoon at the Kittredge Tennis Courts.

Colorado won their second match in a row, including three of its last four and improved to 11-6 on the season (4-5 in the Big 12).

The Cornhuskers dropped to 10-9 and 1-8 in the conference. The Buffaloes had little trouble with the 'Huskers winning three singles positions in straight sets, in addition to taking two of three doubles points. Morgan Sall and Kendra Strandemo teamed up for their 14th doubles match win of the season with an 8-2 win at No. 2, while Jessica Vanderdys and Sarah Burrows were equally impressive winning their eighth match in 10 tries at No. 3 with an easy 8-1 win.

With a 1-0 lead, Colorado cruised to take five consecutive singles points from No. 2 through No. 6. In addition to Sall's 22nd win of the season (13th of the spring), Vanderdys and Katherine Anne Lutgert were straight set winners at the No. 5 and No. 2 slots, respectively. Strandemo (20th win this season) and Lia Dimingo each won in three sets with the final set decided by super tie-breakers (pro sets up to 10 points).

"Today was a great effort," said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. "Nebraska always shows up, plays well and always fights. We came out and competed in all nine positions and that was the key factor. That's going to be the key factor tomorrow as well."

Colorado continues its homestand at the Kittredge Tennis Courts taking on No. 41 and conference foe Baylor (9-10, 7-1) on Sunday, April 13 beginning at 10 a.m.
