OSU Foils CU's Run To The Finals
April 26, 2003 | Tennis
KANSAS CITY - The No. 36 nationally ranked Colorado women's tennis team run to the finals was halted by No. 35 Oklahoma State, 4-0, Saturday morning at the Big 12 Tournament.
The Buffaloes advanced to the semifinals for the first time since the 1998 when they defeated No. 9 Kansas and upset number seed Baylor on back-to-back days. CU (14-8), seeded No. 8 in the tournament, became the first school in Big 12 history seeded eighth or higher to defeat a team seeded fourth or better.
Oklahoma State, seeded No. 4 improves to 15-6 and advances to the tournament final for the first time since 2001.
The Buffaloes failed to secure the doubles point during the opening match and then subsequently fell in three singles points. The Cowgirls, who defeated Colorado back on Feb. 15, took the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 slots in straight-sets to round out the 4-0 tally.
Colorado has won three of its last four, and six of seven, will wait and see if they are one of the schools selected as one of the NCAA at-large teams on May 1. The NCAA Regionals are May 9-11 at a determined campus site.
