Colorado vs. Kansas State Post Game Notes

January 10, 2004 | Women's Basketball

  • FOR STARTERS...Colorado started the familiar faces of Kate Fagan, Veronica Johns-Richardson, Maria Billingsley, Tera Bjorklund and Randie Wirt for the eighth time this season. The team has an 7-1 record when the lineup starts the game.

  • ON THE RECORDS...Colorado and Kansas State faced off for the first time this season, although today's meeting was the 52nd of the all-time series, which now Colorado leads 29-24. It is the second conference game for both teams. The No. 14 Buffs season record now stands at 12-2, 1-1 in the Big 12, while No. 11 K-State is 11-2, 2-0

  • SOMETHINGS GOTTA GIVE...Both the Buffs and the Wildcats came into the game riding long winning streaks ? Colorado at nine games (dating back to its Nov. 23 loss at Minnesota) and K-State eight games (with its last loss coming on Nov. 7 at home against Penn State).

  • KEEPING IT CLOSE...With the teams trading leads, it's no surprise that neither the Buffs nor the Wildcats ever held a double-digit lead. The largest lead for either team came when Colorado led by eight on two occasions at the 10:32 mark of the first half (19-11) and the 6:10 mark of the same frame (30-22).

  • A SIGN OF THINGS TO COME? Kansas State trailed the Buffs by two at the break, 40-38. It was unfamiliar territory for the Wildcats who have trailed at the half only twice prior this season, and went on to lose both games. The Wildcats broke that streak with a win today, as well as ending Colorado's streak of eight wins when leading at the half.

  • TAKING A SEAT...The Wildcats star center Nicole Ohlde found herself in an unfamiliar spot in the first half ? on the bench. Ohlde picked up two quick fouls and amassed just six minutes of playing time in the half. She rebounded to play the entire second half and finished with 17 points and three fouls.

  • TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE CHARITY...Colorado made 14 free throws in the first half (14-of-18, 78 percent) the most in a half this season, and most in a period since making 20 in the second half of the Buffs' win over North Carolina last season in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

  • KEEPING HER STREAK ALIVE...With her 11-point, 1-of-2 from three performance today, Colorado guard Kate Fagan has hit a 3-pointer in 17 consecutive games.

  • CLIMBING THE CHARTS...With 22 points, Tera Bjorklund pushed her career total to 1,599 points and moved into a fourth -place tie for all-time scoring.

  • THE LOSS marks the first for the Buffs at home this season and rubbing salt in the wound is the fact that the Buffs' last home loss came at the hands of the Wildcats, who beat Colorado 67-59 on senior night last season.
