Colorado vs. Texas A&M Postgame Notes

u     Game of Runs.   Three significant runs defined tonight's game; the first belong to A&M, using a 15-4 run in the first half en route to taking its big lead of the game at 21-11.  Colorado had the other two; the first came right after A&M's spurt, a 12-1 spree that put CU up 23-22; the second came with CU ahead 49-44 midway in the second half, as a 13-4 surge put the Buffs up 62-48 with just under six minutes remaining.

 

u     Texas A &M opened each half hot from the field, making 10-of-14 field goals 71.4%) when combining the first five minutes of each half; however, after making 9-of-11 to open the first half, the Aggies ended the stanza making just 1-of-15 shots (6.7%).

 

u     Colorado now leads the all-time series with A&M by a 10-1 count, including a 6-0 mark in Boulder and 10 straight wins overall.

 

u     This is the fourth time in Big 12 play Colorado has opened 4-1, the third time in the last four seasons.  CU's 15-2 record after 17 games is second only to a 16-1 open in 1992-93; it also matches three other 15-2 starts (1981-82, 1993-94, 1994-95).

 

u     In extending its lead from 39-38 to 64-50 in the second half, Colorado made 12-of-14 field goal attempts (85.7%; the Buffs made 15 of their last 18 shots in the game, 83.3%); that helped the Buffs to a season-best 60.4% shooting (29-of-48) from the floor.  It marks the first time CU has shot over 60% in a game since clicking at 61.4% in an 86-65 win over LSU on Dec. 29, 2001.

 

u     Rebound.  Texas A&M grabbed the game's first five rebounds, after that, CU corralled 30 of the game's next 36 boards, as CU at one time had a 30-11 edge before settling for a final margin of 35-24.

 

u     Colorado G Kate Fagan hit 3-of-9 three-point shots tonight, extending her streak to 20 games with at least one make.

 

u     What Knee Injury?  Colorado C Tera Bjorklund scored 23 points to pace the Buffs, also grabbing 8 rebounds.  It was the ninth time this season she's topped 20 points; with 336 points in 17 games, she's inching closer to averaging 20 per game (19.8; the CU single season scoring record is 19.2 by Jamillah Lang in 1993-94).

 

u     Colorado F Randie Wirt had her second straight double-double (10 pts/13 reb), her third this season and fourth in her career.

 

u     Colorado is now 52-2 in its last 54 games against unranked teams (12-0 in 2003-04), dating back to the end of the 2000-01 season.  The losses both came last year?to Villanova in the Coors Classic final and at Missouri.
