Men's Basketball Harris Named Athlete of the Week

Boulder - Despite a 78-57 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks last Sunday, CU senior forward Lamar Harris still came out on top and earned athlete of the week honors after scoring a career-high 21 points and a personal best 13-of-14 free throws.
The 6'7'' 210 forward produced more points than Colorado's top three leading scorers combined (David Harrison - 5 pts., Michel Morandais - 10 pts., and Blair Wilson - three pts.) and marked his first collegiate game to score over 20 points. This was a huge turn-around from his performance last year at Kansas after Harris went 1-4 in field goals and 1-2 at the free throw line to combine for a total of only three points.
Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Harris dreams of breaking the CU record in rebounds (ranks 50th in career rebounding), and he is definitely moving in the right direction. Harris has led the Buffs in rebounds in five of the last six games, while grabbing nine or more boards 10 times this season. Harris has averaged 13.7 rebounds in his last three games, and he is one of four players in the Big 12 averaging a double-double in conference-only statistics.
Others nominated for this week's award are: Tera Bjorklund (women's basketball), and Jana Rehemaa, Jr. (women's nordic skiing).
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Tera Bjorklund, Senior, St. Peter, Minn. Colorado senior center Tera Bjorklund earned Athlete of the Week nominations for the second time this month after guiding the Buffs to two wins this week and help push Colorado to its best-ever 5-1 start in Big 12 play. In last Wednesday's game against Texas A&M, Bjorklund produced a game-high 23 points on 11-14 shooting, which was good for 78.6% from the floor. The 6'5" Minnesota native also grabbed eight boards in her second complete game of the season. Last Sunday at Iowa State, she led Colorado to their fourth-straight Big 12 win with 11 points on 5-8 shooting (62.5%) with three assists and five rebounds. For the week she averaged 17.0 ppg, and 6.5 rpg, shooting 72.7% from the floor, while playing all but four minutes in the two games.
WOMEN'S NORDIC SKIING: Jana Rehemaa, Junior, Tartu, EstoniaColorado women's nordic skier Jana Rehemaa earned two top five finishes in Saturday's Utah Invitational, placing fourth in the 5K classical, and second in the 10K freestyle. She lost the latter in a fierce sprint for first place against Alaska's Sarah Hansen. The pair were side-by-side in the final 100 yards, but Hansen managed to edge out the Buff junior by 1.6 seconds and post the winning time. Rehemaa has four top seven finishes in four races this season.
