Colorado vs. Missouri Quotes
January 28, 2004 | Men's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Ricardo Patton
GENERAL: “It was a really good win against a really good basketball team. I think our guys played really focused and together basketball.
“We wanted to double-team them when certain personnel from
“They did not look like they were worn down to me. When they started hitting those threes (at the end of the game), they looked pretty good to me.
“The whole team played well.”
ON GUARDING RICKY PAULDING: “Sometimes guys have an off night. I think we did a good job on him, but sometimes guys have an off night. I don't want to take too much credit (for holding him to nine points). We just tried to get a hand up and get in his face when he got the ball.”
ON THE TEAM MEETING AFTER
“Between then and now, we've had some soul searching moments both with the kids and myself. And, like I said, sometimes you have to listen to the kids. Win, lose or draw, the players have to feel like the coaches are behind you. A loss is especially tough, because that's when you really need to be behind your players.”
ON WINNING FOR SOX WALSETH: “It puts it in perspective for me. You worry so much about winning basketball games that sometimes you forget how much you have to be thankful for. I've had a lot of time today thinking about him, and I do miss him.”
Missouri Head Coach Quin Snyder
GENERAL: “ (Michel) Morandais and (David)
ON LINAS KLEIZA'S INJURY: “Kleiza dislocated his shoulder. We're going to wait for the doctor's evaluation before we know what the long term ramifications will be.”
ON TRANSITION FROM LAST SEASON: “We did not have a lot to change from last year. We expected out team to look a lot better than it has. We didn't play as well (as we wanted) tonight, but it's not a setback. We still feel like we are getting better from last year.”
ON ENERGY: “We get a lot of our energy defending from our home crowd. We need a lot more energy to defend. We can't just shoot well. Our margin of error is not that great. We need our players to come in and elevate the level of our game. Thomas (
GENERAL: “This was by far my best game in Big 12 play. I was able to hit my free throws which was great because they were sending me to the line. With Blair (
ON DEFENSIVE PLAY: “I still can't guard anybody. Arthur had a stretch down the end where he couldn't miss, so I still have a ways to go on the defensive side of the ball. Offensively I have been able to move to my left better and I think that I'm getting a better handle on my play down low.”
ON MU CENTER ARTHUR JOHNSON: “Me and Arthur are both great players and great competitors. I never feel like I've got the better of him, we both just play hard. We go out there and give it our all and after the game we give each other a hug and say ?good game' and that we played our hardest.”
ON HOME COURT ADVANTAGE: “Teams really want to come in here and beat us. This altitude is hard for us to run in so I can't imagine what it is like for other teams coming in here. We have to go out and get all over other teams like we did in the second half tonight.”
ON IMPROVEMENT FROM
ON MICHEL MORANDAIS: “He was back to his old form tonight. He was really unstoppable and when he was guarded he was able to find the other open players.”
G Michel Morandais
ON PERFORMANCE: “I felt pretty good in the first half. After I hit a couple shots Blair came to me and said ?welcome back' so it felt pretty good out there. I've been struggling with my game a lot this year and I finally feel like I am playing like I was last year. It feels nice to be back.”
G Blair Wilson
GENERAL: “We are all leaders out there. Even if the shots don't fall I know we can still win because we play so hard. I didn't shoot the ball that well tonight, but I was able to do some other things to help the team win. I know also that if David or Michele are not hitting all their shots we can still win as a team.”
