Colorado vs. Buffalo Quotes

January 03, 2004 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Ceal Barry

GENERAL-“Tonight was similar to the last few games we have played. We dominated the court, but we needed to be focused, and not trip up these last few weeks. We got a chance all week to do this, and it helped. It was good to get (Emily) Waner, (Leslie) Howard, and (Anna) Nedovic in the game and playing. I told the girls at the beginning of the season that we were going to be a better team by the end of December, and we are. We are ready for the rest of the season, we are healthy, and have about ten healthy players who can be out in the game. We are more confident offensively, and the last two games we have played we have done better on offense. I think we shot better at Syracuse, but we were moving the ball really well tonight. We shot an air ball, and we shouldn't be doing that here at Colorado. We should have better attempts than that, but it's hard to measure our offense when we are playing non-conference teams.”

ON CONFERENCE SCHEDULE-“We are in a good position, and we are excited for the conference to begin. We finished with a 11-1 record, and it is good that we had this heading into the conference. We were unsure at the beginning of the season, but we didn't hurt ourselves for the NCAA tournament, but we have to do well in the conference to get a bid.”

ON THREE POINT SHOOTING-“I have not been open like that for a while, or for that long of a period, in a game. It was just open possession after open possession for me.”

ON SEASON PLAY-“Right now we are just focused on Baylor, and starting out the Big 12 strong. If we can get two wins next week then that would be a good start. I think the teams we are going to play will be more like Notre Dame, Washington, and USC, but playing some weaker teams in between has still been good experience for us. We are ready to go (and play conference games), and right now we just want our freshmen to be prepared, and know how big the Big 12 really is.”

ON BEING DOUBLE-TEAMED-“The last couple of games I have been double and triple teamed, and so I feel like I have to shoot the ball whenever I get the chance. I think it (being double-teamed) was definitely part of their [Buffalo] game plan tonight.”

ON SEASON PLAY-“I think it has gone really well so far. Looking at our schedule coming in seemed pretty tough, and we didn't know if we were going to struggle or come out okay, but I think the freshmen really stepped it up after all of the injuries we have had, and were filling roles. We are really happy with our non-conference schedule right now.

Buffalo Head Coach Cheryl Dozier:

GENERAL: “We played the 13th ranked team in the nation and Ceal Barry does a great job getting them ready.  They are a tremendous inside-outside team.  If you try to double-down on the inside, they have great three-point shooters like (Emily) Waner that will kill you from the perimeter.”

ON COLORADO: “Colorado is a team that will go extremely far in the Big 12 and in the rankings because of their amazing inside-outside game; it is a threat.  They have great senior leadership and Ceal (Barry) does a great job.  I am going to turn on the TV and watch Colorado anytime they are on, they are a fun team to watch.”

ON BUFFALO TEAM:  “We played the 13th ranked team in the nation, that is the highest ranked opponent we have played in school history, and we scored 47 points.  We are a young team and we are going to take a lot away from this.  This was big-time basketball; it was a big-time arena, big-time players, and a big-time game, we can take a lot away from this.”
