Buffs 13th In USSA Directors' Cup Standings

BOULDER- On the strength of its men's and women's cross country, soccer and volleyball teams, the University of Colorado is tied for 13th in the final fall United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup (formerly the Sears Cup) standings released Thursday.
With 197 points, Colorado is tied with Florida State and leads all Big 12 and area schools and has one of its strongest showings ever on the fall list as the Buffs tallied 240 points in 1996 and 220 in '01.
Head coach Mark Wetmore's men's cross country, which finished fifth at their respective championship, counted for a CU high 75 points, while their counterparts on the women's team finished sixth and contributed 72. Bill Hempen's soccer and Pi'i Aiu's volleyball teams added 25 points each.
Eight NCAA championships were used to compute the fall standings. In addition to the aforementioned, field hockey, 1-A and 1-AA football, were also calculated.
