Manning Named To Compliance Post

BOULDER - The University of Colorado announced Tuesday the hiring of Julie Manning as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Financial Aid.
Manning fills the position vacated by Lindsey Babcock, who left the University in October to join the Atlantic Coast Conference in a similar capacity.
Manning comes to the CU-Boulder campus from Iowa State University where she has served as the Cyclones' head women's golf coach since 1985, assistant to the senior associate athletic director from 1999-03 and interim senior woman administrator in 2000.
"We are very excited about Julie's decision to join our staff. We just got a gem of an administrator who will bring integrity, work ethic, intelligence and enthusiasm to our NCAA Compliance efforts," said CU Associate Athletic Director Karen Morrison. "Julie will be focused on the welfare of our student-athletes and the department's role in the fulfillment of the university's mission. She will bring an understanding of NCAA recruiting, benefits and playing season rules and practices that will help the university improve its education and monitoring systems."
The Cyclones experienced great success in the 1990s under Manning, bidding the tradition-laden Big Eight Conference farewell in style by winning their first-ever conference championship in 1993 and finishing runner-up the final three seasons of its existence (1994, 1995, 1996). In addition, the Cyclones appeared in four consecutive NCAA East Regionals during the same time frame.
Manning, who earned Big Eight Coach of the Year three times (1990, 1993, 1996), coached eight different student-athletes to Academic All-America honors and tutored 10 first-team all-conference selections, She leaves ISU with a career .825 winning percentage while maintaining a 98.0 percent graduation rate.
Manning is active at the national level in intercollegiate women's golf, as she served a five year stint as president of the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). She is also a board member of the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and is a member of the executive council and ranking committee of the College Golf Foundation (CGF). In addition, Manning has served as a teaching professional at the Veenker Memorial Golf Course (Ames, Iowa) since 1982 while coaching at local clinics and Cyclone camps the past 18 years as a professional.
In addition to her time on the links, Manning was the assistant to the senior associate athletic director from 1999-2003, and interim senior woman administrator from August-November 2000. During both tenures she assisted in the department's coordination of a harassment training seminar; in the implementation of the diversity training session; was chair of the 25-year anniversary of ISU Women in Intercollegiate Athletics; chaired the Cyclone Youth Sports Festival; co-chair the oversight of ISU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee; was a member of the Big 12 SWA Committee for Gender Equity and Diversity; was a member of the NCAA re-certification gender equity committee; staffed the Athletic Council's gender equity committee and was tournament director for both the 1999 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships and the 2002 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Sub-Regional round in Ames.
Manning competed for Iowa State from 1978-82, earning her Bachelor of Science degree from ISU in 1983. Her professional tournament play became limited when she accepted the assistant pro position at Veenker in 1984. She was promoted to head professional, clubhouse manager and became ISU's head women's golf coach in 1985.
Manning will begin work on the Boulder campus in January.
