MCFARLAND NAMED BIG 12 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

DALLAS -- For the second time in three weeks a Colorado women's basketball player has been named the Big 12 Conference Rookie of the Week. Jackie McFarland, a 6-3 forward, from Derby, Kan., received the honor today from the league office for her performance in games during the week of Nov. 29-Dec. 5.
McFarland led Colorado and established career-highs with 23 points and eight rebounds in CU's five-point loss at Wyoming on Dec. 1. She hit 8-of-14 from the field (.571) and 7-of-8 from the line (.875) against the Cowgirls. She then registered her first career double-double with 19 points and a new career-best 10 rebounds against Creighton on Dec. 4. She hit 9-of-10 from the free-throw stripe and added two blocks, one steal and one assist. For the week McFarland averaged 21.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg and 1.0 bpg.
McFarland, who shared Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors with Texas A&M's Patrice Reado, joins classmate Kara Richards who was the league's Rookie of the Week on Nov. 22.
Dionnah Jackson of Oklahoma was named the Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Players are nominated by each school's sports information office and voted on by a panel of media who cover Big 12 women's basketball.
