Colorado vs. Kansas Postgame Quotes

February 24, 2004 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Ceal Barry

GENERAL: “Obviously there were a lot of reasons to get this win.  We got going pretty well early on and that was good.  We took a big lead early.  Clearly our seniors really contributed for us.  The most important thing is that we finished strong.  It was a big night for our team.  Unfortunately, we wont get the chance to play here in March.

“I wasn't particularly happy at halftime.  We weren't in here sitting and sucking on lollypops.  I felt like they were penetrating well, their guards were penetrating just causing our post players to move over and stop their penetration.  (Offensive rebounds) were coming mostly from the penetration.  So that is what we mostly talked about at halftime.”

ON 500TH WIN:  “We have been talking about (the 500th win) for a while.   You never want to be in the position where you say ?well, maybe next game we will try it again.'  You never want stale cake and old 500 cards.

“I think when I was 24 years old I had no idea what I was getting myself into.  I think you have seen it all at 500.  Anything can happen in a game when you see it five plays before it is going to happen.”

ON KATE FAGAN:  “I felt that it was good that we were finding her.  It was good that she was getting open and we were getting her the ball.  She is one of the best three point shooters in the conference.  She is going to be important as we move into this next month.”

Colorado Players

C Tera Bjorklund

ON TEXAS TECH:  “We have got a huge game on Saturday.  We cannot let tonight emotionally drain us.  That place (Texas Tech) will be sold out and it will be a huge opportunity for us Saturday.   We definitely have to be on the top of our game and have to get focused back up.

F Randie Wirt

ON KANSAS' SECOND HALF RUN:  “We were not boxing out and we were not playing defense.  All of a sudden, our shots were not falling.  So it just seemed right that if they could make a run it would be then if we were not going to change things to win the game.”

ON CEAL BARRY's 500th WIN:  “Coach Barry deserves it.  Because really whatever we do on the court she will be the first to tell us that we are the ones that got that win for here.  But really she teaches us everything we do.  When she tells us that it is our win, it is really hers too.”

G Kate Fagan

ON THE SINGLE SEASON THREE POINT RECORD:  “I didn't even know I was close to the record.  That was the first time I have played a team that wasn't guarding me at all and it was the greatest thing ever.”

ON CEAL BARRY's 400th WIN:  “It was a lot different at that point.  From what I know we were not an established program.  I mean, we were, but we were still up and coming and we were all underclassmen.  In the four years I have seen a lot how she works and how she builds up players and a team and fosters the type of environment we have here.

“When most of us got here we knew we had a long way to go and a lot to do to build yourself as a player.  To have all those 100 wins and to see what comes of focusing and being disciplined in this program, I think that means a lot to all of us.”

Kansas Head Coach Lynette Woodard

GENERAL: “To start, congratulations to Ceal Barry. 500 wins is a great feat, and I thought Colorado played with a lot of motivation tonight to reach the 500 mark, as well as it being senior night and all. I thought we fought hard, but we could not make our shots. We did an excellent job on closing in the gap toward the end of the first half, but our shots were not falling in in the second (half). It is difficult playing out here with the altitude and all. Colorado is a great ball club, and we just didn't have it tonight.”
