DENVER-- University of Colorado student-athletes Tera Bjorklund (college basketball), Fran Munnelly (college soccer) and Emily Waner (high school basketball) were recognized for outstanding achievements in their respective sports at the 30th annual Sportswomen of Colorado's annual awards banquet at the Marriott Denver Tech Center here Sunday.

During the 2003 calendar year, Bjorklund averaged a school single season scoring average 18.8 points, 32.6 minutes and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 54.8 percent from the floor.  In CU's 2003 NCAA tournament run she was the second leading scorer in the tournament with 24.7 ppg and had a tournament best 34 points in CU's second round win over North Carolina. On several preseason teams and watch lists and member of all three early season all-tournament teams, when the dust settled, she was CU's first, first team Academic All-Big 12, first team All-Big 12, Phillips 66 Big 12 All-Tournament Team member and the CU Female Athlete of the Year.  In her off season she represented the United States as a member of the USA Basketball Big 12 All-Star World University Games Team.

Sunday's recognition was the third for Munnelly as she was named both the outstanding high school and college player a year ago.  As a CU sophomore she became just the second player in Big 12 Conference history to be named Big 12 Rookie of the Year one season and Big 12 Player of the Year the next in what has become of the strongest, most dominant leagues in the nation.  She earned that distinction after taking center stage of CU's midfield for a second straight season and leading the Buffs to their first-ever regular season conference title and the program's first NCAA Tournament bid. Along the way she recorded 19 points off 6 goals (including four game winners) and 7 assists. She added four class records and five career records to her already growing resume.

Thunder Ridge High School's Class of 2003 Valedictorian, Waner was as good outside the classroom as she was in. In 2003 she led ThunderRidge to the 5A State Championship in her final

season under Ron Burgin with a record of 23-1, averaging 17.8 ppg, 6.2 apg, 3.6 spg and 3.1 rpg, shooting 63.2% from the floor and 52.4% from beyond the arc. She was named Denver Post Miss Basketball for all classifications, Joint Effort High School Player of the Year, 5A State Tournament MVP, Denver Post All-Colorado, Rocky Mountain News All-Colorado, 5A First Team All-State, First Team All-Continental League, was nominated as a McDonald's All-American and a WBCA All-American, while earning Student Sports Magazine Honorable Mention All-American honors. She was the MVP of "The Show III" All-Star Showcase and made the Nike Tournament of Champions All-Tournament Team.
