CU Athletic Department Co-Sponsors Lecture

BOULDER - Dr. Michael S. Kimmel, Ph.D., a sociology professor and expert on gender issues, will give a lecture titled "Kobe, Cadets, Colorado - And the rest of us" on Thursday, March 18, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Old Main Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Kimmel will explore the relationship of high-profile athletes to masculinity, entitlement, and assault. Dr. Kimmel is a Professor of Sociology at SUNY-Stony Brook. He has been an expert witness for the United States Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, on Gender Issues, Gender Inequality, and the History of Masculinity. His books on masculinity include Manhood in America: A Cultural History (Free Press) and The Politics of Manhood (Temple University Press, 1996.)
A reception will follow in the Heritage Center President's Room hosted by the CU Athletic Department. Dr. Kimmel's visit is made possible by the President's Fund for the Humanities.
The event is cosponsored by the CU Athletic Department, Office of the Provost, Office of Student Affairs, BFA Committee on Women and the Faculty Council Committee on Women.
