
No. 67 WOMEN's TENNIS ROUTS COLORADO STATE, 6-1

FORT COLLINS, Colo. ? For the 25th consecutive time it was business as usual for the Colorado women's tennis team in its match up with in-state rival Colorado State defeating the Lady Rams, 6-1 at the Miramont Sport Center, late Friday evening. Since the series began in 1975, the Buffaloes have easily dominated their opponent in women's tennis.
CU finished the regular season with four consecutive road matches that included and even split of a 3-3 record since April 9. For the season, the Buffaloes (11-9, 6-5) travel to this week's Big 12 Tournament at the University of Oklahoma beginning Thursday, April 29 at 9 a.m.
The Buffaloes are the No. 5 seed and will play No. 12 Iowa State. CU defeated the Cyclones, 6-1 back on April 16 in Ames and if the Buffs advance, they will play No. 4 Baylor on Friday at 11 a.m.
Against the Lady Rams, CU finished the regular season on a strong note winning the doubles point and taking five of six singles points for the 6-1 win. In doubles, the visiting team took all three positions for a 1-0 lead. In fact, in 10 of CU's 11 victories this spring when they secure the doubles points, they win.
The doubles lineup against CSU was a trio of combinations not seen that often this spring.
Morgan Sall and Kendra Strandemo took No. 1 doubles, 8-6 for their fourth win this season; Martina Sedivec and Jessica Vanderdys teamed up for the first time this season for an 8-5 win at No. 2; and at No. 3, Jenny Hanson and Lynzee Kever showed their underclassmen muscle taking an 8-4 win. Hanson and Kever are 3-0 at this slot.
In singles, the No. 67 nationally ranked team from Boulder took singles points with the exception of No. 5, led by Kever at No. 1 taking a 7-6, 6-1 winner. Kever won her 11th match at the slot (12th overall) for the spring.
Vanderdys won her seventh of her last nine taking a three-set 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 winner at No. 2. Vanderdys also won her 12th match of the spring (19th for the year).
Kendra Strandemo continued her dominance at No. 3, also taking a three-set decision, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Strandemo won her 11th match at No. 3 singles in 14 tries and her 15th match overall. It was also her third straight win and seventh of her last eight.
Sedivec notched her third straight victory and four of her last five at No. 4 taking a 6-2, 6-4 winner; and Kristy Randono closed out the scoring with an 8-6 decision at No. 6. Randono has won three of her last four matches.
Colorado also improved its Central Region record to 8-4 overall and dropped the Lady Rams to 11-10 overall and 0-7 against nationally ranked opponents. It's also the third straight season under head coach Nicole Kenneally has won 10 or matches in a season. Last season, CU won 14 matches and 11 in 2001-02.
