
WOMEN's TENNIS OPENS SEASON WITH VICTORY

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? The University of Colorado women's tennis team ranked No. 70th nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) successfully opened the spring season with a 5-2 victory at the Air Force Academy, Sunday night.
The Buffaloes continued their mastery over the Fighting Falcons collecting their seventh straight win in as many meetings in the series dating back to 1990.
CU received straight-sets wins at the singles slots from Kendra Strandemo, Jessica Vanderdys, Martina Sedivec and Gleisy Torres Torres. The Buffaloes earned the fifth point sweeping the doubles portion.
Vanderdys and Torres Torres each collected their seventh win of the 2004-05 season, while Strandemo earned her sixth, and Sedivec, her fifth triumph of the season. It was also Torres Torres' first collegiate dual singles victory.
In doubles, all three pairs played together for the first time this season and all earned victories. Sedivec/Strandemo took an 8-5 winner at No. 1 doubles; Vanderdys and Veeri Nurmi an 8-4 winner at No. 2; and at No. 3 doubles, Torres Torres and Allison Quinn won 8-4.
Colorado (1-0) continues its non-conference schedule traveling to the University of Wisconsin taking on Marquette (Jan. 29) and the host Badgers (Jan. 30).
