Postgame Notes

u     This-N-That... Colorado's extended its consecutive game scoring streak to 204... Referee Steve Usechek, who resides in the Denver area, is retiring at the end of the season and officiated his last game at Folsom Field tonight... Colorado is 4-0 at home for the first time since 1999, and has won five straight in Boulder... This is CU's sixth 3-1 or better start in 10 seasons in Big 12 action... The 62-yard TD pass from Joel Klatt to Dusty Sprague was the longest pass play this season by the Buffs... CU is now 107-0 when scoring 43 or more points in its history.

u     Series Stuff. CU has reeled off five straight wins in the series, taking a 41-21-3 edge overall in this particular “Border War”... that includes a 19-4 edge in the last 23 meetings and a 32-8-1 advantage dating back to the '65 game... Colorado has now scored 177 points against Kansas in the last four games, an average of 44.3 per... Kansas has outgained CU the last two games; the 89 plays the Jayhawks ran tonight are their second most against Colorado (it had 90 in 1977 and 1995).

u     CU vs. the Big 12 North.  Colorado has now won five straight games against its Big 12 North Division rivals, and is 18-3 since 2001 against the division (KU falls to 4-18 in the same stretch).  The Buffaloes are now 6-0 against the Jayhawks in their Big 12 North Division “openers,” and are 7-3 overall in first games against divisional opponents.

u     37.8-12.2.  That's the average score in Colorado's five wins this year, as the Buffs have outscored the opponent 189-61 in those games.  CU has 30-plus points in each of those five games, the most since doing it eight times in 2002.

u     Safeties.  The first quarter safety marked the second safety this season for Colorado, the first time is has logged two in a season since 1998.

u     JK-to-JK.  It was fitting that the all-time career records for most touchdown passes and touchdown receptions by a tight end happened on the same play.  The 3-yard touchdown pass from QB Joel Klatt to TE Joe Klopfenstein was the 41st of Klatt's career, breaking the record of 40 set by Koy Detmer (1992-96); it was the 12th TD reception for Klop, as he surpassed Christian Fauria (1991-94), Daniel Graham (1998-2001) and Gary Knafelc (1951-53), all of whom had held the previous mark for the most by a tight end with 11.

--Klatt has thrown 11 of those TD passes to Klopfenstein; the school record for a duo is 12, between Detmer and Rae Carruth (1992-96).

u     More Klatt.  With 193 passing yards, he increased his career total to 6,307, with his sights set on the all-time mark of 6,481 by Kordell Stewart (1991-94).  He is now within 175 of setting a new mark.  He had four TD passes in a game for the second time in his career?the other time was in his first career start against Colorado State in 2003; it was the 10th time a CU quarterback had four or more TD passes in a game.  He is now tied for the fourth most wins as a starting quarterback at Colorado with 17, tied with Ken Johnson (1971-73); he trails Darian Hagan (28), Stewart (27) and Gale Weidner (20).

u     S Dominique Brooks.  His 28-yard blocked punt return for touchdown was the second score of his career?his other came in last year's KU game in Lawrence when he returned a fumble 41 yards for a touchdown.  That got CU on the board after KU had jumped to a 14-0 lead and helped rally CU to a 30-21 win.

u     KR Stephone Robinson.  His 81-yard punt return for a touchdown was the second of his career for a score... the other?  A 48-yard effort at Kansas last season?it put CU ahead for good in that one at 24-21.  Robinson's average coming in (6.2) is not indicative of his abilities?he has fielded seven punts for a net three return yards this year to prevent punts from rolling further to help out his team's field position.

--It tied for the 13th longest punt return in school history, the longest since Ben Kelly took one 88 yards for a score

against Boston College in the 1999 Insight.com Bowl.

u     The Brooks and Robinson returns were Colorado's 36th and 37th touchdowns by a return dating back to 1999, tied for the fifth most (with Nebraska) in the nation in this time frame.

u     PK Mason Crosby.  He had six PAT kicks tonight, with the six points enough to vault him into sixth place on CU's all-time scoring list?and taking over as the second all-time leader in kick scoring.  He has 193 career points (82-90 PAT, 37-46 FG), passing Tom Field (190, 1979-1983).  This was only the second time in the last 20 games that he did not attempt a field goal (with the '04 Texas game); he has now made a career best 30 consecutive PAT kicks.

u     Nice Habit.  Colorado did not commit a turnover or allow a sack in the game, just the 12th time in the last 34 seasons (dating back to 1972) that has occurred?but for the second time in the last three games, as the Buffs pulled off the rare double two weeks ago against Texas A&M.  CU is 12-0 in these games, 4-0 when it has happened under Gary Barnett.
