Quickly... This is Colorado's fourth 4-1 or better start in Big 12 Conference play, as the Buffs were 5-0 in 1996 and 4-1 in 2001, 2002 and now 2005... This was the 18th time (and the fifth straight year) the Buffs got the Sunflower State schools in back-to-back games, and now the 10th time CU has swept both ends... Colorado scored in its 205th consecutive game this afternoon, adding to the 13th longest streak of all-time... CU has held six of eight opponents to under 100 yards rushing this season; CU is 26-5 under Gary Barnett is such instances, including 11 straight wins... CU is now 11-2 in its last 13 games decided by seven or fewer points, dating back to 2003... Colorado had outscored its opponent 52-10 in the third quarter, but K-State turned the tables and matched the opponent total of the year in outscoring the Buffs today, 10-0... ILB R.J. Brown saw his first career action on kickoff coverage on special teams.
QB Joel Klatt (34-17-0, 272, 1 TD passing). He became Colorado's all-time leading passer in the second quarter with a 20-yard completion to Joe Klopfenstein, passing Kordell Stewart (6,481) as he finished the game with 6,579 yards. It was 32nd school record set by Klatt. He extended his string of passes without an interception to 91, the second longest of his career (93 is his best, set in 2003, and he had a run of 90 earlier this year).
TE Quinn Sypniewski. His 64-yard touchdown reception from Joel Klatt in the first quarter was the second longest play by a tight end in school history. Klatt also participated in the longest?a 78-yard throw to Joe Klopfenstein against UTEP in last year's Holiday Bowl.
WR Evan Judge (6-108, 1 TD receiving). Judge had his first 100-yard game of his career, as he had 82 in a game on two previous occasions (vs. North Texas in 2004 and against Texas A&M this season). It was CU's first 100-yard receiving game this year (last: Joe Klopfenstein, 5-134-1, vs. UTEP in the 2004 Houston Bowl).
PK Mason Crosby (3-4 FG, 2-2 PAT). Crosby became the fifth player in Colorado history to score 200 or more career points, as he had 11 today to up his career total to 204, now tied for fourth all-time with Chris Brown (2001-02). He passed Rashaan Salaam (198) to crack the top five. --His field goals 52 and 50 yards, the latter the game winner, gave him three over 50 yards this season. They were the eighth and ninth of 50 yards or longer in his career (eight regular season, one bowl). Coming into today, only three others had made two this year and no one three, so he may have assumed the NCAA lead. --Fourth Quarter. This was Crosby's second game winning field goal in the final seconds (his first was a 47-yard kick against CSU earlier this season). He is now 9-of-9 in his career in the final 8? minutes of a game, including seven kicks of 41 yards or longer.
VB Lawrence Vickers (12-24 rush, 1-3 receiving). Vickers became the 10th player in Colorado history to amass at least 500 of each both rushing and receiving, and he finished the game with 506 rushing and 515 receiving. He is the third player this decade to accomplish the feat, joining TB Bobby Purify (2000-04: 3016 rush, 508 receiving) and TB Cortlen Johnson (1998-2001: 2199 rush, 691 receiving). Complete list on page 16 of today's CU game notes.
P John Torp. His 17-yard run for a first down on the third quarter fake was the third time in his career he had done that; he did it against Oklahoma in 2003 and against Texas-El Paso in the Houston Bowl.
Sack Streaks End. When Joel Klatt was sacked on his fifth pass play of the game, three different streaks came to an end. It was the first sack against Colorado in 116 pass plays, the first time Klatt was sacked in 169 plays, and also the first time ever Klatt was sacked in the red zone after 86 pass plays).
Gary Barnett. As a college head coach, he is now 91-91-2 between stints at Fort Lewis (8-11-1), Northwestern (35-45-1) and Colorado (48-35), the first time he is even overall since he was 0-0 at Fort Lewis in 1982. This year, he has climbed above .500 for the first time in D-IA (83-80-1); this is also the 14th time CU has won at least two games in a row under Barnett.
