No. 25 Colorado Handles Baylor

BAYLOR, Texas ? The 25th-ranked University of Colorado handled Baylor University 30-25, 30-21, 30-27 here tonight in Waco, Texas. The Buffs improved to 14-8 overall and are 10-7 in the Big 12.

 

The Buffs hit .267 in the match and recorded 51 kills on 120 attempts with 19 errors. CU picked up 42 digs to BU's 41 and both teams notched 11 blocks. Colorado is 8-0 when it takes the first two games.

 

“It a really nice win for us on the road,” Colorado Head Coach Pi'i Aiu said. “We're playing hard and finding ways to win on the road.”

 

Colorado started off with a 3-1 lead, but Baylor answered back with a 7-1 run to take an 8-4 lead; causing CU to use an early timeout. The Bears continued to pull ahead, but the Buffaloes answered back and tied the score at 16 with a block from Lynsey Mann. CU eventually pulled ahead with a 23-20 lead, forcing Baylor to use its last timeout of the game. The Buffs held strong and finished the game 30-25. CU put up seven blocks in the set.  

 

The Buffs started the second game strong and lead the whole way. The Bears came within two points a couple of times, but CU pulled away. The Buffs increased their lead to seven points at 26-19 with an ace from Alex Buth. CU finished the set with a pair of aces from Kelly Masumiya. Colorado hit .441 in the game with 19 kills and just four errors.

 

The third game was a back and forth affair. Neither side had larger than a three-point lead until Baylor took a 24-20 advantage. The Buffs rallied back with three straight points and the Bears took a timeout. After the timeout, CU took another three points and regained the lead at 26-20 and BU used its final timeout. The Bears came back within one at 28-27, but the Buffs sealed the game at 30-27.

 

Amber Sutherland recorded a match-high 15 kills and hit .407. Allie Griffin notched 11 kills, five assists, eight digs and five blocks in the win. Lara Bossow tallied seven kills, three digs and five blocks. Mann collected six kills and four blocks while hitting .600. Ashley Nu'u passed out 39 assists and added five kills, three digs and two blocks.

 

Colorado will travel to Manhattan, Kan. for a match against Kansas State on Wed., Nov. 16. The match is set for a 7 p.m. (CT) start. The Buffs have won 8 of its last 10 matches.
