BOULDER-- Senior men's golfer Edward McGlasson and junior soccer player Katie Griffin were named University of Colorado Athletes of the Week.

McGlasson, an Orange, Calif. (Elmodena) native, won his first collegiate tournament as he recorded a 72-72-76-220 scorecard, for 4-over par, to win the Tunica National Intercollegiate. He was one shot out of the lead entering the final round, and in horrific weather (cold, windy and medium to heavy rains) for his first six holes, he played those holes just one-over par and was then able to go on and win by one stroke. McGlasson immediately dedicated the win to CU's ailing coach, Mark Simpson, who is fighting cancer.  McGlasson will try to continue his winning streak when he and the rest of the men's golf team travel to Waikoloa, Hawaii to participate in the Hawaii-Hilo Invitational from Nov. 9-11.

Griffin, a Scottsdale, Ariz. (Desert Mountain) native, scored three goals and had an assist in the Big 12 Championship tournament this weekend, helping the Buffs advance to the championship match.  Griffin notched one goal against Oklahoma in a 2-0 win, and two more against Texas in a 3-2 overtime win. Griffin and the rest of the No. 23 Colorado Soccer team will be in action this Friday when they travel to Los Angeles to take on UC Riverside in the first round of the NCAA Tournament; this marks the third consecutive year that the Buffs have made it to the NCAA Tournament.

Others nominated for this week's award were: Lawrence Vickers (football), Chris Copeland (men's basketball), Jasmina Ilic (women's basketball), and Amber Sutherland (volleyball).

Football: Lawrence Vickers, Senior, Houston, Texas
Vickers paced Colorado with his two single-game career bests of 85 yards rushing and four rushing touchdowns in the Buffs' 41-12 victory over Big 12 North rival Missouri. His four touchdown performance marked the 15th time in CU history a player has scored four rushing touchdowns in a game (Chris Brown holds the record with six against Nebraska in 2001; four were scored the other 14 times). Vickers is only the second Buff to accomplish the feat, with Brown, since the Big 12 was formed in 1996. His 20-yard touchdown run with 6:32 left in the first half set the tone for the remainder of the game, as he broke three tackles en route to the end zone, scoring his second TD of the game to give CU a 14-6 lead.

Men's Basketball: Chris Copeland, Senior, Richmond, Va.

Copeland scored nine of his 14 points in the second half, helping the Colorado men's basketball team outscore the University of Victoria by 22 points in the second stanza en route to a 75-51 exhibition win. Copeland also grabbed five rebounds and dished a game-high four assists.

Women's Basketball: Jasmina Ilic, Junior, Becej, Serbia

Ilic scored 29 points, one more than the Colorado School of Mines did as a team, to lead the Buffaloes past the Orediggers 55-28. Ilic hit 9-of-20 from the field (.450 FG percentage), but was even more dangerous from beyond the 3-point arc going 4-of-7 from downtown. She also went 7-of-9 from the free-throw line, grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists and had two steals.

Volleyball: Amber Sutherland, Sophomore, Glenwood Springs, Colo.

Sutherland collected 26 kills, seven assists, 17 digs, and three blocks while hitting .262 as the Buffs extended their win streak to seven matches. It is the first time since 1998 CU has won seven consecutive matches. Sutherland averaged 4.0 points, 3.71 kills, 2.43 digs, 1.0 assists and 0.43 blocks per game. She leads Colorado in digs and kills this season with 2.75 and 3.6 a game respectively.
