Buffs Want a Holiday to Remember

ORLANDO - Ready or not, the Buffaloes are coming. After finishing up their last practice on Christmas Day, the Buffs will look to get some rest and mentally prepare themselves for their showdown with the Clemson Tigers in the Champ Sports Bowl, to be played on Dec. 27.
"I have total confidence in this team's character and heart," Interim Head Coach Mike Hankwitz said. "It comes down to individuals and how they want to end the season."
Eighteen seniors will suit up in the black and gold for their last time?19 if senior captain and quarterback Joel Klatt is cleared to play.
Hankwitz said Klatt's symptoms, stemming from a brutal, illegal and vicious helmet-to-chin hit in the Big 12 Championship game, are getting better each day. He still has not been cleared to play by the team medical staff, however, and junior James Cox was named the starter on Friday.
"If [Klatt] is cleared to play then we will play him," Hankwitz said. "But James is a mobile and intelligent [quarterback]. He has to be excited about his opportunity and the team will rally around him."
The game also represents a chance for younger players to showcase their talents to a staff which will be led by new Head Coach Dan Hawkins starting Jan. 1.
"[These younger players] need to make a statement about the future of the program and where we are going," Hankwitz said.
Buffs Get Visit From North Pole
Colorado players, staff and family members attended a holiday dinner Christmas night at the team hotel. After the meal, Santa Claus made an appearance to some surprised attendees.
The large and jovial Santa with a deep, bellowing voice?reminiscent of senior defensive tackle John Guydon?handed out presents to youngsters in attendance.
