Colorado Suffers Road Loss at Nebraska, 70-55

March 02, 2005 | Men's Basketball

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Joe McCray scored 14 of his 21 points in the first half and Nebraska led from start to finish in a 70-55 victory over Colorado on Wednesday night.

Wes Wilkinson had 10 of his 13 points in the second half, and Charles Richardson scored a career-high 10 for the Cornhuskers (14-12, 7-8 Big 12).

Andy Osborn led Colorado with 12 points and Richard Roby added 10.

A McCray 3 pointer triggered a 15-0 run over a 3:22 span in the first half by Nebraska (14-12, 7-8 Big 12). Jason Dourisseau's tip-in ended the run and gave the Huskers a 28-10 lead.

Colorado (13-14, 4-11) had a chance to come back as Nebraska missed its next six shots from the field. But the Buffaloes failed to hit two free throws and turned the ball over twice. The Buffaloes could only manage eight points during a Nebraska scoring drought that lasted almost five minutes.

Nebraska then used a 9-0 flurry in just over a minute to open the lead back to 19 on McCray's free throws with 1:29 left in the half.

Nebraska hit 45 percent of its shots in the first half compared to just 29 percent shooting for Colorado. Nebraska blocked nine shots in the first half.

The Huskers struggled to open the second half, hitting just 2 of 12 shots and committing five turnovers. But Colorado could get no closer than 12 points, on Andy Osborn's layup with 12:40 left.

Wes Wilkinson's three-point play and two free throws gave Nebraska a 21-point lead with less than five minutes to play.

The Huskers' seventh win in the Big 12 is their most since the 2000-01 team went 7-9 in the conference. Nebraska would have its best Big 12 finish since 1998-99 if it wins at Kansas State on Saturday.
