Crosby and Barringer Named CU Athletes of the Week

BOULDER-- Senior football place kicker Mason Crosby and sophomore cross country runner Jenny Barringer were named University of Colorado Athletes of the Week for the week of October 9-15. This is Crosby's first and Barringer's second CU athlete of the week honors of the year, while this is Crosby fourth and Barringer's third for their careers.
Crosby, a Georgetown, Texas (Georgetown) native, went 3-3 on field goals (56, 26, 53) and 3-3 on PAT's. His 56-yard field goal in the second quarter is the second longest in the NCAA this season, behind only an Alex Serna 58-yard kick for Oregon State versus California in Corvallis on Sept. 30. His 53-yarder enabled him to join UCLA's Justin Medlock as the only kickers in the nation with two of over 50-plus this season. He now owns six of the eight longest field goals in school history. These were the first 50-plus yard makes this year; he now has 12 in his career. He tied his own school record for the most 50-plus yard field goals in a game (set against Iowa State in Boulder in 2004 and at Kansas State last year). In addition, five of his seven kickoffs went for touchbacks, and the other two were returned to the 17 and 12, respectively. This also marks the second consecutive week that a CU kicker has one the award, as punter Matt DiLallo won the award last week.
Barringer, an Oviedo, Fla. (Oviedo) native, took third-place overall in the "white race" at Pre-Nationals and lead CU to a sixth-place finish out of 37 teams. As an individual, she defeated 250 people in the race, and now has defeated 390 this year (she took first in the Rocky Mountain Shootout). Barringer was the first Buff crossing the finish. She cut 26 seconds off her previous personal record on the course, taking a time of 20:09.8.

Pifer took seventh in the blue race at Pre-Nationals with a personal-best mark of 23:48.4 on the 8k course and the Buffs won the race with 70 points, less than half the points of the runner-up (Florida State, 141). Pifer has been CU's top finisher in the last two races. He defeated 221 other participants in the race.
Men's Golf: Patrick Grady, Junior, Broomfield, Colo.
Grady led Colorado to a fourth place finish in the Windon Memorial Classic, as he finished seventh with a 71-72-77--220 score (7-over par on the par-71, 7,021-yard Skokie Country Club Course in Glencoe, lll.).
