MBB Opens Exhibition Season With Win Over Concordia, 97-85

November 02, 2006 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER – Led by junior sensation Richard Roby, the University of Colorado men's basketball team successfully opened the 2006-07 exhibition season with a 97-85 win over Concordia University (Montreal, Quebec) Thursday night at the Coors Events Center.

Colorado was led by Roby with 22 points and seven rebounds.  Senior Dominique Coleman added 17 points, in addition to a team-high seven assists and five steals.  The Buffs had three freshmen also in double-digits as Xavier Silas, Jeremy Williams and Kal Bay finished with 16, 13, and 11 points, respectively.

Despite the Stingers' 11-0 run with nine minutes to play, the Buffaloes were able to battle back with a 10-2 run of their own in the last three minutes of the first half.  The Buffaloes wrapped up the half shooting .545 (18 of 33) while Concordia shot .483 (14 of 29).

As the second half started, the Buffs put some distance between themselves and the visitors with 13 quick points to Concordia's two in the first three minutes of play.

The Buffs have now won 18-straight exhibition games in a row and improve to 23-1 (.958) under Patton. Their lone setback occurred Nov. 8, 1998 to the California All-Stars, 91-89. In its history, CU is 43-6 (.878) during the exhibition season.

The Stingers were led by sophomore Damian Buckley with 16 points and senior Patrick Perrotte with seven rebounds.

Concordia is the fourth Canadian school the Buffs have played in the exhibition season over the last two seasons. Last year, CU traveled to Vancouver and outscored three opponents by an average of 91.7-63.3. The Stingers reside from the Canadian Province of Quebec with an enrollment of 32,000 students.

The Stingers travel to Fort Collins to take on Colorado State on Friday.

CU's final exhibition home game will be next Tuesday, Nov. 7 against Regis University beginning at 7 p.m.
