AMES, Iowa ? Mallori Gibson led the Buffs with 17 kills against Iowa State, but it was not enough as the Buffs fell to the Cyclones 27-30, 30-24, 28-30, 31-29, 9-15 on Saturday at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa. Colorado fell to 16-11 overall and 12-8 in the Big 12. The Buffs end the season in a tie for fourth in the conference with ISU.

 

Ashley Nu'u dished out 65 assists in the victory and moved to third on CU's all-time career assists chart. She owns 4,226 for her career, surpassing Jennifer Sherlock with 4,196. Kelly Campbell is the all-time leader with 6,228 and Nicole Vranesh owns 5,261.

 

The Buffs hit .141 in the match, better than ISU's .135. Colorado recorded 77 kills, 13 more than the Cyclones. Behind Gibson's 17 kills, Amber Sutherland and Lara Bossow each tallied 15. Alex Buth added 14 and Lauren Schaefer tipped in 13. Bossow and Buth hit .290 and .242, respectively, to lead the Buffs.

 

CU had four Buffs pick up 11 or more digs. Kristen Karlik led the team with 17 and Callie Webster added 14. Sutherland added 12 and Nu'u recorded 11, each earning a double-double.

 

The Cyclones put up 24.5 blocks, compared to 14.0 from the Buffs. Schaefer, Bossow and Sutherland each tallied six block assists. Buth had five blocks, one solo and four assists.

 

Colorado will await the NCAA Volleyball Section Show tomorrow, November 26, to see if it will extend its postseason. The show will be televised on ESPNEWS between 1 and 1:30 p.m. The Buffs have made 15 NCAA Tournament appearances in 21 years.
