Jackson-Wilson and Nu'u Named CU Athletes of the Week

BOULDER-- Sophomore Jermyl Jackson-Wilson (men's basketball) and senior Ashley Nu'u (volleyball) were named University of Colorado Athletes of the Week for the week of November 26-December 2. This is Jackson-Wilson's first and Nu'u's third recognition of the year and of their careers.     

Jackson-Wilson,
a Milwaukee, Wis., (Rufus King/Ohio State) native, grabbed an offensive rebound and scored the game-winning shot for an exciting 88-86 victory at the buzzer as the Colorado men's basketball team defeated Northern Colorado on Saturday. He converted his only field goal of the game, and put on a dominant performance around the glass adding seven rebounds, six blocked shots, four assists and three steals. Jackson-Wilson also added 14 points on four for four shooting and four rebounds in CU's 67-55 loss to UNC-Wilmington on Wednesday. 

Nu'u, an Aurora, Colo., (Smokey Hill) native, led CU into the second round of the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2001 by defeating No. 19 New Mexico State 3-0. She directed CU to a .287 hitting percentage over the, now, 33-4 Aggies she also added four digs and four blocks (two solo and two assists). Nu'u handed out 44 assists, while recording a .636 hitting percentage with seven kills on 11 errorless attacks. In the loss against No. 3 Washington, she recorded 45 assists, three digs and two block assists. For the tournament, Nu'u averaged 12.71 assists, 1.14 kills, 1.00 digs and 0.86 blocks per game.

Women's Basketball: Aija Putnina, Freshman, Riga, Latvia

Putnina averaged 8 points, 14 rebounds, two blocks and an assist a game in Colorado's win over Colorado State and loss to Southern California this past week. Putnina had eight points, 14 rebounds (eight offensive and six defensive), a block and an assist in the CU's 76-57 loss to USC. She scored eight points and pulled down 14 rebounds (two offensive and 12 defensive) along with three blocks and an assist in the Buffs' 56-51 win over CSU.
