Colorado postgame quotes

February 26, 2006 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller

General

“I just think it is a good way to end out home season. I really appreciate our fans and the people who continue to come out. Colorado has great basketball fans and great tradition and they just keep coming back. They make these players feel great every time they step on the floor. Today was no different. They stepped out there and the fans greeted them, in particular Whitney Law and Tami Garnett. It was a great feeling. As far as the game, it was a much needed win for many reasons. Obviously, to go out on a win and to get a win against the south division. Two, to get back on track and make these players realize that everything they are doing in practice is worth it. I can tell you that they are the most resilient team that I have ever been around. They come back the next day, work hard, and have got the energy and the passion, and it starts with Whitney Law.”

On Whitney Law

“Whitney is still, in the back of my mind, it feels like she is going to get another year. But with that said, you never know. One of the mistakes I made this year was that I told this team that Whitney was their leader because I believed it and I saw it every day. I never gave Whitney the opportunity to earn it. I saw in mid-January, in practice and on the court, where it just clicked and she became the leader of this team. I do not know what more I can ask of her as far as what she gives to this team and how much she believes in her team mates and her desire for this program to be successful. I just wish I had her since her freshman year.

On Whitney Law's game

“Oklahoma State kept on changing their defense and I thought Whitney was key in that little stretch when they came at us and made a little run. I thought Whitney answered and identified the defense. She did a great job of passing in the zone and getting to the rim and making great shots. She was definitely key in that run offensively and defensively. I could not have written a better script for her. Any senior would like to go out on a win and on a career high, and she was able to accomplish that.”

On Tami Garnett

“I think she has been a great role player, but that is not an easy thing to do for any player. However, I never sensed that she has never taken on that responsibility with the utmost sincerity and responsibility, and she does it for her team mates.”
