DENVER - University of Colorado Associate Athletic Director, and former head women's basketball coach, Ceal Barry was one of six individuals inducted into the into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame at the 42nd annual induction banquet Tuesday evening at the Denver Marriott City Center.

 

Barry led the Colorado women's basketball program for 22 years where she compiled a 427-242 record and led the Buffs to 13 20-win seasons and 12 trips to the NCAA Tournament including six Sweet 16's and a trio of Elite Eights. Her squads captured four Big Eight Conference regular season crowns (1989, 1993, 1994 and 1995), four Big Eight Tournament titles (1989, 1992, 1995 and 1996) and the 1997 Big 12 Tournament championship.  Barry retired having coached the most games, matches or tournaments (669) and the sixth most seasons of any coach in Colorado athletic history.  

 

Off the court, Barry graduated all, but two four-year players (well over a 95 percent graduation rate) and coached 85 Academic All-Conference student-athletes.  Following her second consecutive Big Eight title in 1994, the United States Basketball Writers Association and Basketball Times Magazine named Barry National Coach of the Year.  On the local level, she was inducted into the Colorado Sportswomen Hall of Fame the same year.  

 

Since retiring from the coaching ranks following the 2004-05 season, Barry has served as CU's Associate Athletic Director for Student Services where she supervises the areas of Academics, Life Skills, Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning and Training Table for the CU Athletic Department.

Joining Barry in the Class of 2006 were a pair of former CU student-athletes -- Tom Hancock, who coached football, wrestling and track at Lakewood High School and CU Athletic Hall of Fame member J. Allen "Pat" Patten, a longtime coach and athletic director at Boulder High School. USOC administrator Bill Hybl, Olympic Cyclist Davis Phinney and Denver Broncos safety Dennis Smith rounded out the inductees.
