Hypolite and Gibson Attack Their Way to CU Athlete of the Week Honors

BOULDER-- Sophomore defensive tackle George Hypolite and fellow sophomore volleyball outside hitter Mallori Gibson were named University of Colorado Athletes of the Week for the week of September 17-23. This is both Hypolite and Gibson's first career CU athlete of the week honors, but the third consecutive week that a volleyball player has won the award.
Hypolite, a Los Angeles, Calif. (Loyola) native, played a huge role in stopping Georgia on offense, especially its running game. He recorded his first career sacks (2-16), with one causing a fumble on UGA's first second half possession, which led to a CU field goal. He had four tackles in the game (all solo, three for losses), with a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, a third down stop and a pass broken up. UGA gained just 54 yards on the ground (27 tries), and had four red zone rushes for a net minus-10 yards.
Gibson, a Bakersfield Calif. (Foothill) native, recorded a team-high 29 kills as CU went 1-1 last week. She averaged 3.62 kills per game while hitting .228 and added 1.88 digs and 0.62 blocks. Against No. 5 Texas, Gibson was the only Buff to hit in double-figures with 11 kills and hit .226 in a three-game loss. Gibson came back to record a career-high 18 kills on 48 swings (.229) in a five-game victory against Kansas. She added three aces and six digs for a career-best 21 points.

Moore, who sat out the 2005-06 season for assorted reasons, tied for 11th overall in leading Colorado to an eighth place finish in the New Mexico Tucker Invitational. He posted a 72-74-73-219 scorecard on the 7,345-yard, par-72 University of New Mexico Championship Course, his second best collegiate finish, topped only by a tie for eighth in the 2004 Purdue Boilermaker Invitational. He played steady in the first two rounds, scoring pars of 28 of 36 holes, with four birdies, two bogeys and two doubles. But he had five bogeys against a single birdie heading down the stretch, and whereas the "old" Moore might have lost focus, the senior version finished with an eagle, a birdie and two pars, one coming on the toughest par-4 hole (No. 4) on the course.
Tennis: Monica Milewski, Sophomore, Park Ridge, Ill.
Milewski defended her No. 86 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles national ranking winning her first three singles matches of the fall season at the Colorado Invitational. Milewski defeated a pair of Denver opponents and a CU teammate in the two-team invite. Milewski dropped only one set and also teamed with Franziska Jendrian for a doubles victory on Sunday.
