September 07, 2006 | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball

BOULDER - The University of Colorado men's and women's basketball teams have announced their 2006-07 schedules featuring a host of intriguing match-ups, story lines and a good portion of regionally and nationally televised games.

The CU men's schedule features six opponents that earned NCAA Tournament berths and a pair that made the NIT a year ago. With 10 seniors on last year's roster, the Buffaloes counter with youth in 2006-07 with a school record eight freshmen under 11-year head coach Ricardo Patton.

Kathy McConnell-Miller's Buffaloes will play a challenging schedule that includes no less than 17 games against teams that qualified for postseason play in 2005-06. McConnell-Miller returns eight letterwinners, but also has an active roster that will include seven players that did not see game action last year.

New season tickets and single-game nonconference tickets are scheduled to go on sale Oct. 16, while Big 12 Conference single-game tickets go on sale Dec. 4.

The men's home schedule highlights a pair of doubleheaders with the CU women's basketball team. The first is the home opener for both programs on Friday, Nov. 10 with the women hosting San Francisco at 6 p.m., led by first-year head coach and former CU assistant Tanya Haave. The men will play the second game of the evening against in-state rival Denver at 8:30 p.m. Both games will be broadcasted on Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain (FSN RM).

The other doubleheader at the Coors Events Conference Center (CECC) is Jan. 3.

The men's non-conference schedule features nine home and three road games. In addition to the Pioneers visiting Boulder, the men will also host 2006 NCAA Tournament opponent Air Force (Nov. 18), Wyoming (Nov. 26, FSN RM), Northern Colorado (Dec. 2), Pepperdine (Dec. 4), Colorado State (Dec. 9, FSN RM), UC Davis (Dec. 23), TCU (Dec. 30) and Central Florida (Jan. 3).

The Jan. 3 game against Central Florida will start at 5:30 p.m., the first game of a doubleheader with the CU women who open the Big 12 season against Missouri at 8 p.m.

Nonconference road games for the CU men are New Mexico (Nov. 14), Utah (Nov. 21) and 2006 NCAA Tournament opponent UNC Wilmington (Nov. 29).

The men tip-off the conference season at home against Texas on Saturday, Jan. 6.

The Buffaloes will host Big 12 North rivals Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Missouri at the CECC as well as Big 12 South opponents Texas A&M and Oklahoma State, in addition to the Big 12 opener against the Longhorns.

Seven games highlight the ESPN Plus schedule with four games at home (Texas, OSU, K-State, NU) and three on the road (NU, K-State, KU). The FSN RM television schedule features the Buffaloes at the CECC seven times and twice on the road.

For the Colorado women, the Buffaloes open the season with seven of their first eight at home, including the 20th Annual Coors Classic which brings Nevada, Charlotte and Wyoming to Boulder, Nov. 24-25. The Coors Classic will feature a new format this season. Instead of a tournament format with consolation and championship games on Nov. 25, it will be a classic format with Colorado playing Nevada on Nov. 24 and Charlotte on Nov. 25, at 7:30 p.m. each night. Wyoming will play the early game each day at 5 p.m., facing Charlotte on Nov. 24 and Nevada on Nov. 25.

The Buffaloes will play Wyoming in Laramie on Nov. 21, the lone road game in their opening eight games.

Other contests during CU's season-opening home stretch include 2006 NCAA Tournament participants Vanderbilt (Nov. 12) and Southern California (Dec. 2) as well as San Francisco (Nov. 10), Cal State-Northridge (Nov. 19) and Colorado State (Nov. 29).

The Buffaloes will take a west coast road swing to face Cal State-Fullerton (Dec. 7) and Oregon (Dec. 9). CU's contest against the Ducks will be played at the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore., as part of the annual Pap? Jam.

CU closes out its nonconference schedule with games at South Dakota State (Dec. 13) and at home against Cal State-Bakersfield (Dec. 28) and Houston (Dec. 30).

Colorado's Big 12 home schedule features games against Northern Division opponents Missouri (Jan. 3), Iowa State (Jan. 10), Kansas State (Jan. 31), Nebraska (Feb. 10) and Kansas (Feb. 24). All five Northern Division opponents advanced to postseason play last season. Southern Division opponents feature last season's top two Big 12 teams in Oklahoma (Jan. 20) and Baylor (Feb. 21) as well as Texas Tech (Feb. 3)

Seven of Colorado's Big 12 games are slated for regional or national television. CU's road game at Missouri (Jan. 28) and home contest with Nebraska (Feb. 10) are part of the league's Fox Sports Net national package. FSN Rocky Mountain will televise six additional home contests (San Francisco, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Baylor and Kansas).
