Colorado-Iowa State Quotes

January 10, 2007 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller

GENERAL
“I feel like our non-conference schedule was tough and we were tested. Two games does not make a season. We are going on the road for four of (the next) five. Anybody can beat anybody in this conference. You have to win your home games to be competitive in the Big 12, and we were fortunate to have our first two at home.”

“Our performance in the first half was exciting. We had a really competitive week of practice and they were just ready to play. It started with defense. I think this team gets really motivated by stops and it translates to the offense.”

ON 3-POINT SUCCESS

“It's always a part of our offense. But you don't expect three (players) to show up and shoot the ball (well from three-point range).”

Colorado Players

Guard Bianca Smith

GENERAL
“Everybody was doubting us (coming into conference play), but our spirits are high.”

ON 3-POINT SUCCESS
“We've been practicing that a lot. We had confidence and I like to shoot, so I just kept shooting. That's just the way the game happened. We just wanted to hit open shots, not necessarily the threes.”

Guard Susie Powers

GENERAL
”We are feeling really good. We've set a home game precedence for the season that we need to follow through on.”

ON 3-POINT SUCCESS
“It was a breakdown on their defense. We had a week off after Missouri to prepare for this game.”

Forward Jackie McFarland

GENERAL
“This is how we feel we can play. The momentum we started has boosted our confidence.”

ON 3-POINT SUCCESS
“That made me smile. We can shoot threes. The scouting report is not to let (ISU) shoot threes and we were the three-point shooting team.”

Iowa State Head Coach Bill Fennelly

GENERAL

“[Megan] Ronhovde really showed up for us tonight with 20 points and five three-pointers. She also had to put up with guarding their best player all night and I think she did a pretty good job. We didn't to too well shooting tonight and we were getting mauled on the post. We are just not scoring and that is really killing us right now. We have too many turnovers in critical spots. Colorado played well tonight, it seemed like they were making every shot they took. In the second half we made a little run, but basically we were just outplayed.”

On post play

“When we do get our opportunities around the basket, we cannot have the disappointment of missing those easy shots. It has been that way for us so far and we have not found a consistent substitution pattern.”

On guarding three-pointers

“We didn't really expect that. We didn't guard them very well tonight and it seems like every thing we went over in the scouting report was just forgot.”

On CU F, Jackie McFarland

“She is a great player. She plays really well inside and did a great job all night of getting in position. Unfortunately, we did not have an answer for her tonight. She is a good player and when you play against someone like that you really have to raise your game.”

On improvements

“We are really struggling to defend right now. There are a lot of things we have to do better. I hope we can get some enthusiasm from some of our players who want to get out there and show it.”
