Missouri-Colorado Quotes

January 03, 2007 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller

General
“It was a good start to the conference. They really responded. I think that they've had a really good week of practice, the most competitive that we've had, and it really reflected in tonight's performance.”

On Energy

“I thought what was key was how different people stepped up in different situations. In the first half, I thought that Candace (Rucker) sparked us with the deflections and the steals. I thought she really gave us good energy and put us in a situation where we weren't playing on our heals so much. Second half, Susie (Powers) and Jasmina (Ilic) came in big after Whitney (Houston) and Candace (Rucker) really sparked us in the first half. But, Kara (Richards) and Jackie (McFarland) were 10-12 from the field, 25 rebounds, and they were really consistent. It was important that we played two halves like that to beat Missouri.”

On Susie Powers

“I think Susie (Powers) sat on the bench longer than she would have wanted in the first half. A credit to her, she was evaluating when she got out there and was much better.”

General
“You practice how you play, and the last week and a half was the best practices that we have had. We talked about that everyone is even going into conference. We played really good defense. The shots they did make were contested and that really sparked our offense tonight.”

On the Play of Kara Richards

“It was huge, especially since it was only her second game back. She did what she needed to do and played tremendous defense.”

Jr., C, Kara Richards

General

“Composure was key. It was definitely one of the main factors. At one time, we had three freshmen together, and they stepped it up and played with a lot of composure. But, we gave them too many second chances in the last minute and a half, especially since we've been talking about finishing games in practice.”

Missouri Head Coach Cindy Stein

GENERAL

Colorado really outplayed us tonight, they deserved to win.”

ON MISSOURI'S PERFORMANCE

“It was the worst we have performed all year. Games or practice, we have not played that bad all year. You cannot come out like that and expect to win basketball games.”

ON IMPROVEMENTS

“We need to work on our chemistry. We were really off sync tonight offensively and defensively. You have to give credit to Colorado though. Their size was really a factor tonight, especially on the boards.”
