AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Colorado women's soccer team fell to No. 12 Texas by a score of 4-1 here Friday afternoon to close out the 2007 regular season.
The Buffs finish the regular season 9-7-3, with a record of 5-5-0 in Big 12 play, good for seventh place in the Big 12 Conference.
"The opportunity was there and we didn't take it," said head coach Bill Hempen. "We got out and scored early, but we weren't able to stay in the game and keep control."
Colorado got on the board first as junior Gianna DeSaverio netter her fourth goal of the season just two minutes into the game. Despite a few more opportunities, DeSaverio's goal would prove to be the final CU score of the match.
Texas responded in the ninth minute and capitalized on a Colorado foul and Caitlin Kennedy scored to equalize the score at 1-1. The Longhorns would strike again in the 27th minute when Niki Arlitt broke through the Colorado defense and buried a shot in the upper corner of the goal for the 2-1 lead.
Colorado was outshot eight to four in the first half, with both goalkeepers making two saves apiece.
Texas would hold on to their momentum in the second half and went on to score two more goals and finish out the game with the 4-1 victory.
The Longhorns dominated the stat sheet with 14 shots to Colorado's nine. Junior defender Michelle Wenino led the Buffs with three shots, two of which were on goal.
Colorado will now travel to San Antonio, Texas in the first round of the tournament. The game will kick off on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 4:30 p.m. at the Blossom Soccer Complex. For more information, visit www.big12sports.com.
