Colorado-Jacksonville State Notes

December 30, 2007 | Women's Basketball

Colorado wins its ninth straight game and improves its record to 10-2 overall. The nine-game win streak is the team's first since a similar 9-game run in 2003-04. The 10-2 mark is also the Buffs' best since 2003-04 when they started 12-2.

Colorado registered a perfect record for the month of December (7-0) for the first time since 2003-04 and just the sixth time in team history. The mark ties the 1980-81 and 1981-82 teams which both finished December 10-0. The 1992-93 team had a program-best 9-0 December while the 2003-04 team was 5-0 and the 2002-03 squad was 6-0.

Colorado's 91 points are its most since a 92-65 win over Northern Colorado at the Coors Events Center on Feb. 13, 2006. The Buffaloes have back-to-back games with 80 or more points for the first time since netting three straight Dec. 8-20, 2005 (Pacific, Northern Arizona, Puerto Rico-Mayaquez).

Colorado had 10 3-point field goals giving them a school single-season record six games with 10 or more 3-pointers only 12 games into the 2007-08 campaign. The previous season was five in the 34-game 2001-02 season.

Colorado shot a season-high 56 percent (35-of-63) and is 54 percent over the last two games (64-of-119) after struggling from the field the two previous contests (Texas Southern and Dartmouth) at just 35 percent (40-of-113).

Colorado's 49 first half points were a season high and the most since scoring 53 against Northern Colorado on Feb. 13, 2006.

Aija Putnina had a career-high 20 points on a personal-best eight field goals. Putnina was 8-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-4 from 3-point range. Only Jenny Roulier who hit 5-of-5 3-pointers against Missouri on Feb. 13, 2002, had more 3-pointers in a game with out a miss.

Brittany Spears, the leading scorer and shot blocker among freshmen in the Big 12, had a career high five blocked shots and has 11 in the last four games (2.75 bpg).

Susie Powers had a career high nine rebounds and tied a personal-best with 12 points. She also had 12 against Northern Colorado.

Powers had only scored two points in the previous three games.

Powers had five assists against just one turnover to improve her Big 12 leading assist-to-turnover ratio to 3.7.

Colorado has outrebounded its opponents in all 12 games this season and has outrebounded its opponent in 16 straight games dating back to last season. The Buffs have not been outrebounded themselves in 18 straight games (last season's game against Baylor the teams tied at 35 apiece).
