Colorado-Jacksonville State Quotes

December 30, 2007 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller

GENERAL

“First, what a great month of December for the Buffs.  Hopefully we will get a victory tonight in the Bowl game. This was a month of the team chemistry developing.  We as coaches like to think we can develop that chemistry, but it comes from the team being in the locker room, out together, in their apartments, together on and off the court.  It's a real strong bond and it's exciting.”

“We had to prepare in two ways.  We had to make sure there we no second chance opportunities and no inside penetration.  In the first four minutes of the second half, that is what Jacksonville State did. But at the end of the first half and into the second half, we became more competitive on the boards and dug a little deeper not to give the second chance opportunities.”

ON SUSIE POWERS?“There's a confidence about them.  It starts with the point guard.  I rarely see Susie Powers get flustered on the floor.  It's about being prepared.”

ON AIJA PUTNINA?“Aija has one of the prettiest shots on the team.  Her form is good and has great consistency.  She knows I have confidence in her, but this is the first time I really feel like she finished on the block.  Sometimes it's just a matter of her having confidence and doing it.  For me it's about getting her to believe she can do it.  I think she could make four (three's) every game.  She has a great shot and release, and she practices.”

ON DEALING WITH RANKING??I don't think it's about being in the top 25, I think it's even just being in the Big 12”

So. F Aija Putnina

ON SHOOTING?“I just felt good playing, running out on the floor.  This summer on my Junior National Team we were doing a lot of shooting; it really worked well for me. “

Sr. G Susie Powers

ON IMPROVING OFFENSIVE PLAY?“It's a result of chemistry.  We understand each other, we can read each other really well.  We know what each other are thinking.  Playing with Jackie for three years now, I'll know what she is going to do before she even does it.”
