BuffVision Earns Pair Of National Honors
March 12, 2007 | General, Sports Video
BOULDER--Â The University of Colorado's BuffVision department was honored Monday with a pair of 2007 Telly Awards for a 30-second institutional commercial produced last fall that featured Ralphie, CU's legendary live buffalo mascot, running through the Boulder campus.
Â
BuffVision won two awards in the Bronze category of the 28th Annual Telly Awards, one for an institutional spot and the second for productions with a budget of less than $1,000.
Â
It is the sixth national award received by BuffVision since its inception in 1999. BuffVision, which is headed by Deric Swanson, produces the Buffalo Stampede Coaches Show seen weekly on Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain throughout the fall and winter. Along with the coaches' shows, the BuffVision game day crew coordinates all aspects of Folsom Field's $3.6 million video display boards.
Â
The commercial aired during several regional and national television programs this last fall and winter, including CU football and basketball games and the Buffalo Stampede Coaches Show. The spot begins with Ralphie standing in Chatauqua Park at the base of the Flatirons and continues with her running through campus and finally Folsom Field. While Ralphie is running, several of the University's highest honors are celebrated including its four Nobel Prize winners.
Â
"I would like to give special thanks to (Assistant BuffVision Director) Eric Pelloni, (student assistant) Grant McGilvray and all the Ralphie Handlers for helping to put the spot together," Swanson said. "We are truly honored to be recognized by the prestigious Telly Awards."
Â
Founded in 1978, the Telly Awards is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions. This year's Telly Awards received over 13,000 entries from all 50 states and five continents.
Â
The commercial was the result of a collaborative effort of University of Colorado marketing and communications personnel from Athletics, the Office of the President, CU-Boulder's Department of University Communications and News Services
