September 13, 2007 | Football, General, Soccer

Football linebacker Jordon Dizon (senior) and soccer goalie Kirstin Radlinski (junior), were named University of Colorado Athletes of the Week for the week of September 3-9. This is the first CU athlete of the week award of the year and career for Radlinski and the second consecutive award for Dizon who now has two honors in his career.

Dizon, a Waimea, Hawai'i, (Waimea) native, played in 76 defensive snaps and recorded 17 total tackles in Colorado's 33-14 loss at Arizona State. Of the defensive captain's 17 tackles; 14 were unassisted and three were assists. He also recorded one tackle for a loss, one tackle for zero gain, two sacks for a combined 13 yards lost, four third down stops, one quarterback hurry and one quarterback run down. This brings his two-week season totals to 40 tackles, two tackles for a loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, four third down stops and one fourth down stop.

Radlinski, a Placentia, Calif., (El Dorado) native, posted a 1-0-1 record on the weekend against Utah and BYU. She recorded six saves against Utah, and seven more against BYU for a total of 13 on the weekend. The shutout against BYU was the ninth of her career and the second of the season. She now sits at No. 3 in the Big 12 in saves with 18 for the season. She is only two away from being tied for the lead in the conference as the no. 1 slot (Jessica Mills-NU) has 20. She is currently tied with three others in the conference for first in shutouts with two.

Others nominated for this week's award were Mallori Gibson (volleyball).

Volleyball: Mallori Gibson, Sophomore, Bakersfield, Calif.

Gibson led CU to a 2-1 record and a runner-up finish at the Hilton Classic, hosted by CSU last weekend. Gibson led CU in kills during all three matches, as she averaged 5.11 kills per game and hit .309 in three matches against Colorado State, Winthrop and Miami (Ohio). Gibson recorded a weekend-high 18 kills and hit .343 against CSU. In the match against Miami, she put up a career-high 4.0 blocks.  Gibson performance was good enough to land her on the all-tournament team.
