Hypolite and Buth Named CU Athletes of the Week

September 18, 2007 | Football, General, Men's Golf, Women's Golf, Soccer, Volleyball

BOULDER-- Football defensive tackle George Hypolite (junior) and volleyball right side hitter Alex Buth (junior), were named University of Colorado Athletes of the Week for the week of September 10-16. This is the first CU athlete of the week award of the year for Hypolite and the second for Buth, they both have two career honors.

Hypolite, a Los Angeles, Calif. (Loyola) native, had seven tackles, three of them were for a loss of yardage and two of the three were quarterback sacks. Five of his seven tackles were solo and he added a quarterback pressure to his two sacks. Hypolite played a big role in limiting Florida State to 221 yards of total offense and in holding them to 1-of-13 on third down conversions as he recorded two of the third down stops in the game.

Buth, an East Grand Rapids, Mich., (East Grand Rapids) native, recorded 21 kills and 23 digs on Sept. 12 against Texas Tech to become the first Buff since 2002 to record a 20-20 double-double. Both her 21 kills and her 23 digs are now career-highs. She averaged over 4.00 kills and 4.00 digs per game in the contest and hit .410 (21k-5e-30att). The last time a Buff recorded a 20-20 double-double was Nicole Carr on Sept. 13, 2002 against Texas-Arlington, when she recorded 20 kills and 24 digs. This was the 23rd time in CU history a 20-20 or better double-double was recorded. Buth currently ranks 10th in Big 12 only matches with a .410 attack percentage, sixth in kills (4.20), fourth in digs (4.60) and is tied for eighth in points (4.80).

Others nominated for this week's award were:

Men's Golf: Derek Tolan, Junior, Highlands Ranch, Colo.

Tolan led the Buffaloes to a third place finish in the UNM Tucker Invitational, tying for seventh individually, with a 68-74-73?215 scorecard (1-under par). It was his ninth career top 20 finish, all of which have also ranked as top 10 efforts. He had an eagle and 12 birdies against nine bogeys and two doubles in posting his best finish since a sixth place result in CU's Stevinson Ranch Invitational last March. His effort also included a career collegiate round best of 68 (4-under). Earlier in the week, he posted a 75-83-74-232 scorecard to finish 69th in the St. Mary's Invitational.

Soccer: Michelle Wenino, Junior, Aurora, Colo.

Wenino was one of two Colorado players named to the 2007 Virginia Nike Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team, serving as the rock of the CU defense. She helped the Buffs play to a 0-0 tie against UNM and her efforts landed Colorado their third shutout of the season.

Women's Golf: Dominique Pytlewski, Sophomore, Vancouver, B.C.

Pytlewski led all Buffaloes at the Ptarmigan/Ram Classic finishing fifth place in the tournament. She shot a one-under par 71 in the third round and her three round total of 218 rallied her from a tied in 10th place after the first two rounds to fifth place. It was her best finish for a three-round total in her career. Pytlewski's 71 also marked the first time in her collegiate career that she finished one-under, besting her previous low of an even-par 72 on two different occasions last year.
