AUSTIN, Texas ? Emilee Sisco hammered 13 kills and led CU with 36 attacks as the University of Colorado volleyball team dropped its fifth straight Big 12 match at the hands of No. 7 Texas on Friday, Sept. 28, at Gregory Gym in Austin. The Buffs fell in three games, 30-19, 30-20 and 30-27.
Colorado hit .211 in the match with 41 kills. Schylur Edelman recorded the best hitting percentage on the night at .455 with five kills on 11 errorless attacks. Lauren Schafer and Alex Buth each recorded nine kills. Schaefer hit .389 and Buth hit .286. Kaitlyn Burkett dished out 34 of CU's 41 assists.
Texas hit .400 with 62 kills in the match. The Horns were led by Juliann Faucette with 18 kills on 34 attacks (.412).
Colorado didn't put up a single block in the match compared to the Horns' 10.00. The Buffs' defense came up with 36 digs. Callie Webster led the squad with 13. Ellen Henry and Buth each recorded six digs.
Colorado looked the best in the third game and came off the intermission determined to get back in the match. The Buffs took their first lead of the match in game three, going up 3-2 on a net error by Michelle Moriarty. Texas did retake the lead, but the Buffs continued to fight and didn't allow the Horns to take more than a three-point lead.
The Buffs tied up the third game at 21 with a ace from Edelman and CU retook the lead with a error from Lauren Paolini. Texas took four of the next five points to take a 25-23 lead and increased it to 29-25. CU fought off the first two match points, but UT won 30-27 to close the game and match.
The Buffs (5-8, 0-5 Big 12) will return home for a pair of matches next week. They will host Missouri on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Coors Events Center. The match will be televised live on FSN. .
