Dizon, Buth Earn Student-Athlete Of The Week Honors

BOULDER-- Football linebacker Jordon Dizon (senior) and volleyball right side hitter Alex Buth (junior), were named University of Colorado Athletes of the Week for the week of August 27-Sept. 2. This is the first CU athlete of the week award of the year and career for both Dizon and Buth.

Dizon, a Waimea, Hawai'i, (Waimea) native, played in all 83 defensive snaps and recorded 23 total tackles in Colorado's 31-28 overtime win over in-state rival Colorado State in the Rocky Mountain Showdown. Of the defensive captain's 23 tackles; 17 were unassisted, five were assists and one was a special teams stop.  He also recorded one tackle for a loss (-2 yards), one tackle for zero gain, one forced fumble, one pass break up and a critical fourth-down stop.  In addition to his already stellar performance on Saturday, Dizon provided the pressure on CSU's third-down play in overtime that led to Terrence Wheatley's end zone interception.

Buth, an East Grand Rapids, Mich., (East Grand Rapids) native, was named the Colorado Invitational Most Valuable Player after leading Colorado to a 3-0 record, which included a three-game sweep of No. 11 California. The Buffs won the tournament for the second straight year by sweeping all of the competition (Central Florida and UNC Wilmington).  Buth recorded 33 kills (3.67), 19 digs (2.11) and five blocks (0.56) and hit .417, the second highest on the team.  Buth was CU's leader on the court as the eldest.  She notched 13 kills against UNCW, 12 vs. UCF and eight against Cal.  She hit .706 against UNCW (13k-1e-17att) and .391 against UCF (12k-3e-23att).  She was second in the team in hitting percentage, kills and digs and led the team in blocks.

Others nominated for this week's award were Nikki Marshall (soccer).

Soccer: Nikki Marshall, Sophomore, Mead, Colo. Marshall scored two goals in Colorado's season opener against the University of Denver to give the Buffs a 2-0 win.  She Moved up to fifth on the CU career points list and is only a sophomore. Marshall also recorded an assist in the their second game of the weekend.
