Colorado-Nebraska Quotes

January 15, 2008 | Men's Basketball

Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik

GENERAL ? “It was not pretty offensively. Nebraska is a good defensive team; One of the best in the nations However, I thought our defense was better than it has been. Fortunately, we made some timely stops and made some key baskets. I am really proud of this team, they played hard, and fought and scrapped all game. They did a good job.”

ON THE CROWD ? “The student body was awesome, and the crowd was really into the game, and helped us out tremendously. It was a great evening for Colorado.”

ON OFFENSE ? “We did not get into a flow. We need to pass and cut and get more movement on the offensive end. Nebraska's pressure did not allow us to get into a flow, but they [Nebraska] definitely deserve credit, but we still need to be better.”

ON WORK LOAD ? “I have cut practice short to help save their legs. I make ice baths mandatory, even though they did not like it a first. I think that they are starting to see the benefits of taking care of their bodies. They are also seeing how to practice more efficiently. We are not very deep, but it is what it is. I have to be smart about that.”

ON DEFENSIVE EFFORT ? “We have been grading them for the last five games, paying attention to every little detail, and that is something that I did with the Miami Heat. Our only chance to be competitive is for every thing we do on the court to be right with great effort. We have to be sharp, and share the ball. It forces them to become students of the game. However, we still have to improve in that area. Everything is under a microscope.”

Nebraska Head Coach Doc Sadler

GENERAL? “That's the first time a team came in and looked us in the eye and kicked our butt. They just played harder than us. That same team beat up on us here last year too. I was disappointed because I thought they played harder than we did. We've got guys talking about altitude and they've (Colorado) got guys talking about winning?that's the problem.”

ON NEBRASKA'S OFFENSE?“We have to get some play out of some guys that haven't been playing very well, which is pretty much everyone. I can tell you this much, you can't miss free throws and win games.”

ON COLORADO'S DEFENSE?“Changing their defense didn't affect our offense at all. We've been playing that kind of defense all season.”

ON COLORADO PLAYERS?“They all impressed me tonight. They all played hard. They've got good players and they hit big shots tonight.”

Colorado Players

Richard Roby

GENERAL ? “Winning is hard. We fought for 40 minutes. Every game in the Big 12 is tough. We fought hard and got the win. The Texas A&M game was physical. That's the nature of the Big 12. It's going to be a grind for 40 minutes.”

ON LAYUP LATE IN GAME TO INCREASE LEAD TO 4 POINTS ? “I told Marcus (Hall) to give me the ball, he gave it to me and I made the bucket. (Aleks) Maric jumped, I just spinned off of him, and made the lay up.”

ON STRUGGLING OFFENSIVELY ? “I'll take a win over a 30 point night any day.”

Marcus Hall

GENERAL ? “We're growing up as a team. We're going to have runs, they're going to have runs. We just need to take their punch and fight back. I was just looking to attack tonight, its part of my game and our team needs me to play my game.”

ON NEBRASKA'S PRESSURE DEFENSE ? “We didn't have faith in our offense late in the shot clock. We did a good job handling the pressure but we got to have faith in our offense.”

ON JEFF BZDELIK'S FIRST BIG 12 WIN ? “There will be many more.”

Cory Higgins

ON BEING THE LEADING SCORER ? “Xavier (Silas), Richard (Roby), and Marcus (Hall) are our main scoring options. Whenever I can step in to take the pressure off of them and help the team.”

ON PLAYING IN THE BIG 12
? “Everything is turned up to a different level. The non-conference helped prepare me for it but it's just a different level. I'm getting to the point where I can compete every night.”

Nebraska Players

Cookie Miller

GENERAL?“We didn't come out ready to play. Our defense is there, but we have to come out to play. We should have come out with better defense, but we came out slow and sluggish. It's disappointing. We should have won this game. But, we'll bounce back.”

ON NEBRASKA'S OFFENSE?“Everybody knows the offense, but we need to shoot more and we need to go to the hole more. I need to do that more. I need to dribble and kick the ball out to take pressure off of Al (Aleks Maric). Everybody is going to be looking for Al and we need to take the pressure off of him.”

ON BIG 12 CONFERENCE PLAY?“Every game is going to be a dog fight. This is conference play. This is my first time playing in the Big 12, but I know it's going to be a dog fight every night.”
