Colorado-Colorado Christian Quotes

January 07, 2008 | Men's Basketball

CU Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik

ON TEAM'S PROGRESSION?“Slowly and surely we are getting better. We are reacting to situations a little better and becoming more instinctive. If we could finish around the rim we would be a little better, and we are still taking a few possessions of defensively. We just need to keep getting better.”

ON DIFFERENT STARTING LINEUP ? “Caleb [Patterson] has been doing a real nice job in practice, and the time was right. He has a chance to rebound the ball and a chance to score the ball. He also gives us some size in there which we desperately need. Xavier Silas was unable to play tonight, so Levi [Knutson] is next in line.”

ON PLAY OF MARCUS HALL ? “Here is a young man who did not play at all last year, and he also played against New Mexico a couple of weeks after surgery on his right hand, and he is right handed. He got two teeth knocked out, so he is very resilient, but I also think you are starting to see him get the rust off. We need everything going for us; we need the stars to be aligned for us.”

ON PLAY OF CALEB PATTERSON ? “He played well. I told him he needs to play with a little more force. Even when he was introduced for the starting lineup and he tried to bump Trent Beckley, that was not smooth. So we need to work on all those things.”

ON PLAY OF DWIGHT THORNE II ? “I kept him out of the Wisconsin game on purpose because he has talent, but he was playing tentatively for some reason. I asked him if he was angry with me and he said ?yes', and I said good because I wanted something to get him so upset to spark something inside. I told him what I wanted, and he responded in the first half with two assists, a couple rebounds, and he was 2-2 from the floor. That's a big lift for us because that's the kid of talent he has. He is a very good shooter.”

Colorado Players

Freshman Guard Levi Knutson

General ?? “As a team we are playing stronger with the ball, and we need to get a little better at that. I think we played a lot stronger tonight and it was good to see an improvement from the Wisconsin game. We are just trying to get better. We wanted to execute and run our stuff well. We tried to control their strengths, but we wanted to run our stuff well and get ready for DU next week and prepare for them.”

On Starting His First Game for Colorado ? “I thought I played alright. I had a few mistakes, but that's how it's always going to be. We're trying to get better, but it's nice to be out there at the start of the game, and I think Caleb (Patterson) will tell you the same thing.”

On Running Team Offense - “I think you can always get better. I think everybody out there is confident on the floor and in certain situations, they all know where to go. We can get a little bit cleaner on our cuts and executing. But overall, I think everyone is a lot more confident with running our offense; we can always get better though.”

On Gaining Experience - “You just have to keep getting better. It's good to learn from Richard (Roby), and Marcus (Hall), because they have a lot of experience. I think that every time you step on the floor that you gain a little more experience each time.”

Senior Guard Marcus Hall

On Levi Knutson and Caleb Patterson Starting - “Both of those guys have proved that they are ready for the opportunity and I think that they both played well. I think we need to be a little more physical in the paint, but as far as those two guys for their [making their] first start they played well.”

On correcting His Early-Season Mistakes - “I've been turning the ball over a whole lot, which in the past has been something that I haven't done. Having four turnovers in a game is not acceptable for anybody, especially a point guard, and that is something that I have to correct and I did that tonight.”

On What Getting a Winning Attitude - “It's always good just to get a win and we need to get a winning attitude. I think if we get in a winning mode we will get an edge. A lot of times when you start winning, you get an edge. It's good to come out every night expecting to win and win or lose, you have that edge.”
